Extra chicks for warmth from ideal

I got an order of chicks the other day from ideal poultry and it came with nine of these black chicks added for warmth. I don't think they are a barred variety because they are all black and have no white spots on their head. I was thinking they might be black australorp males because that's...

Help, chickens becoming droopy with diarrhea...?

Hi, so about two months ago one of my hens had begun acting off and would just stand around and sleep and that got progressively worse over the coarse of a few weeks until she eventually died. That was a few weeks ago and I didn't think too much of it as I thought it was just something wrong...

    Question on housing quail?

Recently I was given a used rabbit hutch and I've been thinking about getting some courtnix quail to house in it. I have the hutch in pretty large covered pen. The pen isn't predator proof though so I was thinking of locking the quail up in the rabbit hutch at night so their safe. I was...

Pigeon not sitting on egg? What to do with it?

Hi, I had a pair of pigeons who were sitting on two eggs which are 15 and 16 days old today. Yesterday when I let the birds, out a hawk came and took the hen and so now I'm just left with the male of this pair. He seemed to be sitting on them last night when I checked on them and then throughout...

Female attacking male?? And when to expect eggs?

Thanks for the advise, I'm hoping they will be fine because outside of the nest box they are fine just once he enters her nest box she gets upset. I'm going to try putting them in a new box tomorrow because I think she might be agressive because this box is already her terrotory from when she...

Female attacking male?? And when to expect eggs?

Hi, so I just bought a male while homer to join with my single hen (her previous mate died) along with some other breeds. For the past week she has been my only pigeon so when I brought in the new pigeons she was very excited. She's been sticking especially close to the other white homer. After...

pigeon lays first egg right after mate dies...?

Hi, so up until two days ago I had a pair of white homers who had just started mating with each other. Then two days ago unfortunately the male got eaten by a hawk so now I only have the hen. I was just about to buy a new male for her (along with a few fancy types of pigeons) when today I went...

HELP! Egg Bound or something else? PICTURE

I may be wrong but it looks to me more like the early stages of prolapse... hopefully someone with more experience with this can chime in. Ive had an egg bound hen before and there were clear signs that there was an egg stuck in the vent. With this I don't see any sign of their being an egg...

    Tips of combs are black

Chickens are fine with dry, cold air but any moisture in the air greatly increases their chances of frost bite. I find my hens are fine on very cold nights when I leave their windows open but as soon as I close up the coop to prevent drafts the moisture will build up and they get frost bite. I...

baby chick has hair caught in throat!

im guessing the hair is stuck in her crop so i would treat it similarly to crop bound. try opening her beak and use a needless syringe to get more oil down her throat. don't force too much that she will choke but i would try to get it in her mouth and this way she will swallow it. Also you...

    what's wrong with my feet?

looks like scaly leg mite. you can try coating their feet with petroleum jelly or vegetable oil each day to suffocate the mites. Ive also heard that ivermectin can be used to treat scaly leg mites, you might want to look into that. Good like, hope she feels better :)

Show me you goose pen, need ideas

Heres mine. My geese stay in it while Im not home, my female lays in a corner of the coop they share with the chickens. I think the main difference between geese and chickens pens is that geese are far messier, they poop more and will need better drainage for their water.

Meat birds.. questions before I order

As long as you dont wait too long before butchering them you should be fine. The only birds Ive ever lost are when I let them grow really big and then one or two will have their legs go out. I think as long as they have enough movement from walking around they tend to have really good survival...
