: Gentle, relatively quiet, great flock guardians, get along well with other poultry/geese
: Difficult to incubate/hatch,
My Exhibition Dewlap Toulouse Geese are the most prized members of my flock. I absolutely adore everything about them! They make wonderful pets and are also great flock guardians in that they let me know if there's a problem outside. I have found the Exhibition Dewlap Toulouse to be quite difficult to incubate and/or hatch successfully and would highly recommend gaining experience with a breed which doesn't present as many problems before trying these. I have found my geese to be gentle at all times of the year, including the breeding season. Although the ganders can get a bit testy during breeding season, I haven't witnessed the viciousness that I've seen in some other goose breeds at this time of year. I consider the Exhibition Dewlap Toulouse to be the "gentle giants" of the goose kingdom. They all come running every time I open the door to go outside and are always happy to see me! These geese are extremely large and can develop leg problems if not fed the proper diet. I highly recommend Mazuri waterfowl brand feed for any and all types of waterfowl but especially the Dewlap Toulouse. As with any animal...FRESH and CLEAN drinking/bathing water should be available at ALL times. Exhibition Dewlap Toulouse geese are the only breed of geese that I raise. I have found my geese to get along well with all of the other members of my flock...including the chickens, call ducks, pheasants, and yes, even the cats! All in all, the Exhibition Dewlap Toulouse is a wonderful breed and my hope is that my small contribution will make a difference toward preserving this amazing and beautiful bird.
