Serama

Pros: Beautiful, GREAT BROODY AND MOTHER, quiet
Cons: Flighty
I have a Buff Serama Bantam, and I love her. She does not love me back, as she was "wild" (raised by people that did not socialize with his chickens AT ALL) for most of her life, though...

She is a fantastic broody and mother, and recently hatched 5 Rosecomb/Serama bantam chicks! I definitely enjoy raising this breed and recommend it to anyone and everyone, whether it means showing it, or just having it as a pet!

Pros: Easy to clean;
Cons: Have to bend over to get eggs; eggs break on the bottom if there is not enough hay; too big, have found two hens stacked on top of each other 4 times.
First nest boxes I have ever had and overall they are pretty good, but there are a lot of things I have problems with. I couldn't even fit them into the cons section... Homemade nest boxes work twice as well.
Pros: High hatch rate; small; cleans easily
Cons: REALLY dirty and moldy after the whole process is done; hard to regulate correct humidity.
My sister and I used this incubator IN OUR ROOM! It was small enough that it fit in a corner. We put 7 eggs in it and 6 of the cutest baby bantams hatched (the other egg was not even fertile)! The only problems with this device was that when I would attempt to close the lid to keep the chicks warm and dry, the lid wouldn't close! I looked down and one of the chick's heads was stuck!!! This happened twice and I came very close to crushing one's head one time! Thankfully they were all fine. After we removed the chicks from the incubator, it was moldy, dirty, stinky, and just descusting. It wasn't hard to clean though. Overall it is a pretty good incubator and I will use it again.
Pros: Gorgeous
Cons: Flighty; Jumpy
I have six of these birds; they are GORGEOUS! They are the cutest little things ever! The little roosters strut around as if they own the world! I get 2 eggs a day from 5 hens. They are scared of everyone but the pros out-weigh the cons. I definitely recommend these chickens!
Pros: Decent Layers
Cons: Loud and aggressive roosters; not as good layers as we expected.
Unfortunately, our RIR's were not as great as we thought they were going to be. They attacked us on numerous occasions, and were not very good layers; we gave them the same type of feed and the Austrolorps were laying 10-15 eggs from 20 hens and RIR's were laying 5-10 from over 30! We will probably stick to the Austrolorps from now on. We realize that it may of just been bad breeding strains though.

Polish

Pros: Tough
Cons: Flighty, Annoying, Almost Blind, Slightly Aggressive
A lot of you are not going to believe this review, but I am being quite serious. We recieved a polish chicken as our mystery chicken from Mcmurray hatchery with a bunch of Austrolorps. They are 11 months old now. He is the top chicken in the pecking order, has shown aggressive behaviour, and pecked a hole in my hen's head. But he was very tough being bitten by three dogs and survived. Overall I am not impressed with this breed and most likely will not get it again.

Pros: Great layers; beautiful
Cons: Loud and aggressive roosters; WAY TOO BROODY!
I have 21 Black Austrolorps, and I have had them for almost two years now! My 17 hens lay approx. 10 eggs a day!!! Some of my hens will come up to me to get treats but mostly they are scared of me. Also, I was collecting eggs, and for absolutely no reason at all, my HUGE rooster attacked me twice!!! Also, everyone on BYC says these chickens NEVER go broody. In the past two months we have had 9 broody hens and THEY ARE MEAN! I am not saying that people here are wrong, I am just saying how mine are. It is probably just the breeding strain. Overall I would recommend these chickens new chicken owners. I also would recommend getting these in small numbers to see how the strain is.
