Sonja73...your Orps are gorgeous! I would love to hatch a few of those. Any chance you would consider selling a few hatching eggs. I, too, have had bad luck this year with my first ebay eggs and would love to have some success.
Thanks Starlingdaly. I'll give them more time and try to be patient. I didn't hear anything when I candled them and the movement I saw did not appear to be in the airsac. I'll keep hoping. : )
HELP!!! Anyone with advice: On day 23 of hatching White Ameraucanas. No pipping happening yet but I just candled and see faint movement in all but one. What can I do? I've never had this before. Can I help them at some point? Should I wait it out (I've heard some people say they've had...
...no sign of pipping as of today which is day 22. I'm beginning to think that E-bay eggs are not worth the time/frustration levels. I'm so used to 75-100% hatch rate from hatchery eggs (also mailed to me) and the yield from the e-bays is so disappointing. I wish more folks would have left...
Good luck Funky Chooks. My White Ameraucanas are due to hatch tomorrow and I am feeling like an expectant father. I check them every hour looking for the first sign of pipping. Hope it works out for both of us. : )

This year was the first time I bought eggs on e~bay. I got ten speckled sussex; Two were quitters; two began to pip and then died; two hatched out very small and lived for three days and two hatched healthy. Out of five Black Copper Marans only three began developing and only one hatched (she...
When they're first feathering the colors can kind of blend and muttle together. Is the green looking solid or just kind of like a tint? It's just really hard to tell until they're feathers are in. To me her wings look like female...

And you shouldn't have much...
Also, if gou've heard a "quack" it's a girl. Pay attention when she's being verbal. Hens will get loud and give that typical "quack" we usually think of when we think of ducks. Males can be chatty but they are quieter and in between their baby chirping you'll hear a raspy or hoarse sort of...
My Cayuga male didn't get his sex feather (curly feather) in until he was about three months. I don't know how old Rouens get theirs. The second "stripe" by the Rouen's eye could sometimes be solid, sometimes broken like a "dotted line" and sometimes just a single dash or even almost a dot...
It looks awfully big to be a mallard. I would think Rouen. They're colored exactly like mallards but are bigger and don't fly. It looks like a hen to me but still pretty young. If her head is feathering az green then a drake. Gkod luck. The gray one looks like an indian runner.
Thanks everyone for input. I've decided to keep the Marans...I just love her personality and I've really become attached. I know it will be a while but I just can't wait for her first egg.
I just completed a hatch of six fbcm eggs off of ebay. I tried to hatch them with duck eggs (which doesn't seem to work so well. I think maybe the humidity for the ducks was too high for the chicks.) The Marans eggs, however, were stunning. Colored like a super dark terra cotta pot and...
I just hatched black copper Marams (well, only 1/6 hatched) and I believe she is a pullet. However, I keep getting mixed signals from "her". Since I have no other BCM to compare her to, I'm afraid of getting attached only to have to give her up.Can anyone help me?
1. She will be two weeks...
@ Redsoxs, what sort of eggs do your SS lay? Large, medium, small? Cream, light brown? I'm a little confused by the SS eggs I got. I thought they laid large-extra large cream to light brown. All ten I received were very light tan to basically white and were pretty small. What is the...
Thanks everyone for the welcomes. It's very nice to hear.
@Redsoxs, I can't keep both because I intend to keep one white ameraucana and two Rouen Ducks. The county will only let me keep up to four poultry without becoming "licensed" and paying registration fees. It's not that expensive but...
Just joined BYC but have been following threads for months. I am a pre-school teacher in StL, MO and hatch chickens or ducks nearly every year with my class. In the interest of teaching responsibly, I have NEVER purchased hatching eggs without first lining up a future home for the babies and...
