I would have thought that they were being fed enough with a 14 pound feeder twice a day for the entire time we've had them was enough, there are 15 chickens for us in that pen, but the other two ladies are having the same problem. no eggs and unlimited feed. I will get a picture tomorrow, its...
I bought chickens at the beginning of June- "ready to lay" they are called from this store buffs- others call them comets production red or cinnomon queens. They started of with really yellow legs, small but red combs, and were full pullet size, and pretty well looked ready to lay.
I bought...
Hi I have a new baby leghorn from my pullets I raised I heard you can tell age when they are newborns by their feathers- I couldn't get a real good picture, but to me by the feathers it has two distint rows, one longer than the other, and not tapered like I see the males pictures I see online...
It is hard- I will try cutting back on the treats- I get all these veggies free, so I feel like giving them to them is no waste on the veggies for a day for about a week, the resume to give them every three days, I figure it will shock their system to give them none But Thanks alot for some...
thats a pretty production red!! mine are more like this- with white
They are in a pen whenthey free range- I don't trust preditors to get them, and they spread out in it, but I never found any eggs outside- I did have one free ranging in the barn and I knew she had laid eggs, I couldn't find...
I bought 12 Production Red- Red Star- or what every they are on June 6th. They were ready to lay- and when asked what that meant it was 5 or so months. Not only did they not lay, but haven't either. Its been almost 3 months, I know its been hot, but not recently. My april peeps (leghorns) are...
I would have thought that the heat was the stress, but there is no rooster with them. They are with a New Hampshire red pair of females, They lay eggs, and I just put them in there about a 5 days ago- they haven't laid any eggs yet, but I figured they were just stressed from the move. The other...
Well free range is a broad term- the are enclosed within about 100 x 100 area with grass, just to keep predators out, and the fence gets moved every week so its fresh, everything can be seen though, so I don't think they are laying it outside, but good thought- thanks!!

What do you mean by smell bad? She smells like a chicken, which depending on who you are- may or may not be pleasant, no "fowl" odor But seriously, what smell should I look for?
I will do that thanks!! And Beleive me she has her own little palace and until she is much bigger isn't going around anyone else. I think the infection stunted her a little, she is about 1/2-1 lb less then everyone else her age now, and she was getting plenty to eat (all she wanted all day...
I have a 3 month old barred rock hen, and the other chickens must have poked her eye out (the poor girl) cuz I separated her a few weeks ago with her eye swelled shut. two days ago she opened it and there it no eye. Today it was swelled shut again and I squeezed out a big gob of puss the whole...
oh i am sorry to hear!! I recently had the same thing happen to a very healthy rooster- someone told me maybe heat stroke or just its time, there was no explaination!!
they werent dry and stuck, but they were't wet either, the other styrophoam has a fan too, but the auto turners, so I thought maybe they didn't develop right or something without the turners. I think I may try a different incubator and leave this one as a hatcher, that way the humidity can be...
