I'm in 6b and designing a hoop coop that will be covered with a tarp in the winter, the front face will be open wire for ventilation. If it gets to chilly from the I'm going to stack hay bales along the front. I'm also using deep litter.
I'm pretty confident that the coop will be warm enough!

I want to put some foam pads on the bottom of my wooden nest boxes to keep the eggs from being cracked as usually more than half of them are. I know that they'll probably pick at it, how do i keep them from that? Is there anything I can put over it? Thanks so much in advance!

Jumping in here! I'm also adding a rooster the same age as my 20 week old hens very soon, some people say to just throw him in but my instincts tell me to keep him in quarantine for a week or so and slowly integrate him, any suggestions?

How are they knocking it out of the feeder? I have a feeder that I just sit on a cinder block and no feed is knocked out. I do recall them trying to scratch it out with their feet when they were young. Maybe they'll grow out of it?
