We are pretty sure that the resident crows in our area are stealing our eggs! Our chickens have a coop enclosed by poultry netting, so they are free to go in and out as they choose. However, the crows seem to have figured this out too. We have seen crows flying off with eggs in their beaks...

We are in upstate NY but have not had to worry about predators. We have a big dog and a movable electric fence. We were originally going to do the thin plywood, but I thought it might be awkward to get into/out of the coop so I was trying to come up with alternatives...
Straw is a good idea - does sound warmer than shavings. We use straw in the nesting boxes also. We were thinking of piling bales of straw or hay around the base of the coop. Unfortunately, the coop cannot be put on the ground - but were were considering piling bales of straw or hay around the...
We have a coop on wheels that is approximately 13 feet by 15 feet. The floor is wire screen, which works well in the summer, but we want to provide a cozier floor for the winter. We were planning on laying plywood for the winter, but plywood is heavy and hard to manage. So, I had an idea to get...
One of our chicks has a bald spot along the top of her back. The skin looks raw in spots and kind of flaky and dandruff-y. It does look like there are some feathers sprouting so perhaps this is just a phase that I have never noticed before, but the others don't look quite as bad. I don't want to...
By the way, thank you all for helping with the identification of my mystery chicks with bubbins ... I mean poults with snoods.

Soooo...
What does one do with turkeys if one happens to be vegetarian? Should I find them another home or keep them as pets? My kids do love the poultry
But we've already got two ducks, a rooster and a bunch of hens living in the henhouse...
I have to say, they are all quite cute!
A friend just dropped off some extra chicks she received mail order (she ordered 20, got more than 50!!!). We've identified all but two of the breeds. Any idea what these two mystery breed are?
This photo shows two chicks of the same mystery breed. Note the little nubbin right over their beaks...
We lost a chicken this weekend. Our little flock is free-range, but has always stayed fairly close to their coop. Recently, however, they started wandering the the edge of the woods and pecking around in the underbrush. Well, on Sunday something got one of them. There were a whole bunch of...
We have five hens and a rooster. The rooster seems to have a particular affection (I guess...) for one of the hens, and he climbs on her frequently. The problem is that she is getting raw and even a little bloody under her wings. We did have to isolate her once when it got really bad, but she...
