I haven't posted in ages, but we just got our first ever batch of waterfowl (10 Pekin, 3 Cayuga, 3 Magpie, and a trio each of American Buff & Toulouse Geese). I was struggling trying to find out if the starter feed I found at TSC had enough Niacin for their leg development and I couldn't find...
Mrsp523 - Well I'm so glad to hear you had 2 hatch together! I wish I knew what to tell you as far as what to do with your hen, but if our hen wanted to mother the chick we would have set her up in our garage in our 6x6 chick run to keep the other hens from bothering the chick. Best of luck to...
Good news!
We managed to find some chicks for our little peep to socialize with! They are a couple weeks older than him but they're both pullets and very gentle buff Japanese maybe? I thought they were OEGB when I first picked them up but there was a mix of both running around the barn.
He...
Oh that's quite a clever idea also!
Redbarn - I did hang a little parakeet mirror in his brooder and he seems to have spent most of his day over there when I was at work judging from where all of his droppings are :P It does seem to help a bit but he still looks a little sad.
Featherz -...
Aww that's super nice of you!
Unfortunately I'm in Syracuse and it looks like you're in Saratoga, which is a bit too far for me to be able to make the trip out there. Thank you though, that's very nice of you!
I did hang the little parakeet mirror for my chickie and it seems to calm...
I just got home from work and my husband warned me before I took the little chick out that he/she has gotten a lot 'crazier'. He wasn't kidding! The little guy hopped up 2 inches from the brooder's floor to get into my hand & he was trying to crawl all over my shirt.
I have a small parakeet...
Thank you for the replies, the little peep made it through the night without too much cheeping.
I've checked the other eggs in the nest and it looks like a couple more might hatch, so I hope this poor little thing might get a sibling or two. I guess if that doesn't happen I'll have to go on a...
It's been a long time since I've posted much on this forum, but we're kind of desperate right now!
Our broody bantam Cochin has been trying to hatch our D'Uccles' eggs and we didn't think they would actually hatch because she was constantly pushed off of them by the other birds, and we've had...
Not trying to necro an old thread, but my pullet has been displaying the same symptoms and we are getting desperate. We are purchasing Levimisol & metronidazole to see if this course of treatment will help.
I assume we treat with Levimisol first to kill the worms and then treat for the...
I'm looking to buy a small quantity (25 or less, preferably less) of LF Brahmas from SQ or heritage stock. Eggs are easy to find but I don't want to try my hand in hatching at this time.
I'm located in Central NY and would drive up to 2h to pick up or will pay for shipping!
I would prefer...

Our Garden
September 15:
Our harvest is nearly finished for this year, and despite some gopher problems, disease on the tomatoes, and bug issues with the squash and corn, we still have a free-standing freezer packed with veggies! Not bad for my first garden, and I have learned a lot this year...
Chick Page
June 30, 2010
Well they aren't really chicks anymore, more like teenagers, but I think it just makes it nice to include some more grown-up pictures of our new chickens where you can scroll down and see what they looked like and fluff balls. All future series of pictures of them...
Bantam Coop Build - Sorry for the bad formatting, the tool on this site is pretty annoying!

We're at it again! It's springtime, and after a very successful year with our chickens we are comfortable with the maintenance required but more importantly all of the benefits we've reaped...

The Mulberry Haus Coop
The Mulberry Haus is named after the White Mulberry Tree that decided to grow near my garden on the side of the yard opposite of the coop. Newest photos & updates are first, scroll down to see the beginnings of the Haus and early construction.
