    Rescue Baby Ducks?

I agree, I would hate to take them from their mom, I just feel so bad for the ducklings! Their number decreases every day and it is just so hard to watch… Hopefully things will go better this year

    Rescue Baby Ducks?

I live on the water, and so fortunately I get to watch the ducks and geese every year, and feed them and such. Usually there is a duck family that will have about 12 ducklings and they are so cute! But, every year I watch as those 12 turn to 2 until eventually I only see the mother duck without...

    Can shell-less eggs hatch?

I was reading a thread about shell-less eggs, and then I began to wonder if anyone has ever hatched a chick from a shell-less egg? Unrelated to this, I was also reading about people hatching chicks from store bought eggs. Has anyone ever done that? Thanks

Laying an egg without a shell?

I know. I'm fine with others eating them. I am a vegetarian, so I don't, but the rest of my family does. I wish there was some humane way to kill them, unlike in factory farms and such.

Laying an egg without a shell?

I'm with you roostersandhens. The stuff people are saying about killing their chickens is kind of harsh. I hope that it is all just a joke and no one actually throws a chicken to their hungry dogs. That would be kind of cruel. I think of my chickens like my children and could never even dream...

    When to refrigerate eggs?

I have three chickens. I usually check for eggs at night when I go to close them up, but one night it just slipped my mind and I forgot. So, the next night, I found double the eggs - the ones from today and the ones from yesterday. I quickly put them in the refrigerator, but then thought to...

    Adding a new chicken?

I will do what Cyrsta said and wait until the chicks are older, because I do not have any broody hens. Thanks for the advice

    Adding a new chicken?

How do you recommend introducing a new chicken to your already established flock? I read that you shouldn't put chicks in with the adults, because they will get picked on. And that adding a new chicken will mess up the pecking order, so I need your advice.

    Starting a flock

If you get adult hens, they won't be used to you and you won't know their personalities as well as you would if you started with chicks. Chicks are just so cute, I don't see how anyone could resist. But they do need extra care and take up more time then pullets or adult hens. You mentioned you...

    What breed is this?

So is that the same as a Bluebell chicken? That is what I was told it was, but I'm not sure.

When will EE's reach full size?

I have three Easter Eggers, and they seem pretty small. They have been laying for a while, and are almost a year old. One of the three is much bigger then the other two, but still smaller then some other hens I have seen. Are Easter Eggers just on the smaller side? When are hens full grown?

    How cold is too cold?

Tonight is supposed to be 14 degrees, now i know that is not as cold as in some places. I have three hens, and this is their first winter. It has never been this cold before so I am afraid they might be too cold tonight. I have the option of putting them in my garage for the night just to be...

How to warm a small coop

I sealed up the door of their coop so there isn't a draft. They seemed to have done fine last night. They were so surprised this morning how cold it was outside haha. Thanks for all your advice.

    Freezing tonight! please help

Tonight is going to be very cold and I need to know how to heat up a chicken coop without using any type of light because it could catch on fire. I only have three chickens, so their house is a small wooden box. Any ideas?
