We started with a 4x8 table for the base.
Then built the wall frames.
We leveled out the base in the yard and attached the walls.
Thanks to somebody on BYC we used these brackets to hold the rafters for the roof.
Added the clean out door, hinges, locks and painted the inside.
Built the nest...
That must be it then. The 2 do have pea combs. Not quite sure about the muff though, don't really notice one, especially compared to the non-muffed one, but there could be a hint of one. They're all mutts I'm sure, I just never thought there was a chance for green though. I'm thrilled.
Do they really? I never even noticed. Ha. I'll have to check them out closer tomorrow. Thanks. And I'm 99% certain the hens are mixed, one is the red roosters mother.
This is the best I have for right now. But you can see they all look like normal red type. But I'm not an expert so maybe you will see something I don't see.
You can see the 3 hens and the 2 roosters
Hi everybody. I haven't been on here in a bit since we've been busy with school and kids and stuff. But just wanted to update on my beauty John Jr (she's a girl). We finally integrated the borrowed hens and the roosters and so far everybody is still alive. We've been watching them closely...
Now why couldn't I find that when I searched?
I am definitely not afraid of them, but maybe I should be. It sounds like they can get pretty mean. The most they have done is peck at me, but I think they thought I was feeding them or I was food, it definitely didn't seem in a mean fashion. They...
Awesome. Thats about what our yolk looked like. My husband was afraid to eat it, so I snatched it right up. I don't know how you can compare to the store.
Ok, I guess I'll try to watch for right now and see what happens. I thought they weren't even supposed to lay in the winter, so it might be...
Thanks. So it sounds like it could be any day now. I'm also worried about the 2 fighting with each other. They're hatch mates, so I hope that helps. Only one of them crows, even though they both can, so maybe only the one will take over?
At what age do roosters start getting mean? Will they all get mean or does it just depend on the individual?
We have 2 roosters that are 6 months old. For the longest time it was just the 2 of them and they are friendly enough. When we added the hens everyone said they would get mean. Now the...
I'm fairly certain I know the answer, but I thought I would check anyway.
We have what I thought/believe are RIR or generic production reds. Anyway, one is laying green eggs. Somebody said the eggs can change colors based on what you feed them.

Obviously I'm not an expert, but black #1 and #2 look like boys to me. My 20 week old's comb is just about that big now and her face is also barely red.
Buff #1 girl, buff #2 boy.
See thats what I'm worried about, they'd be going into a fenced in run, so they couldn't really get away too much. Unless I let them all loose in the yard and just have to worry about catching them later. I also have some wire fences that I put them into in different parts of the yard, so maybe...
