It's going to depend on the weather and what your coop is like. Personally, mine go out at 3 weeks. I'm in northern Michigan and it's none too warm here. If you have a large group like you do, they will huddle together. If you are more comfortable with a heat lamp on, go for it. In my opinion at...
I have my garden fenced to keep the ducks out! Mine will eat everything in there, not just the weeds and bugs. I do free range mine. Occasional they decide they want to stay out in the yard and sleep. I just "herd" them in by slowly walking behind them and they scoot into their pen. Most of the...
God bless all you other rednecks who use electric flyswatters and watch the bug zapper! They are fun aren't they?
Is the poultry protector a powder? I'm not sure ducks would benefit since they spend so much time in the water. I'm wondering if a mosquito can even get past all the down and...
Sounds like it doesn't matter if we live north or south, they are just all different. I get so excited hearing about everybody who's getting and hatching eggs. I felt left behind. (sigh) I'll keep chanting-"Patience. Patience. Patience". Good luck everyone!

FUNNY!! And true!!
My geese seem to like most anything. Any fruit or veggie. I give them scraps so they are never really getting too much of any one thing. They seem just as fond of clothing and chair seats so I guess it's hard to say what their...
I'm still waiting for my peahen to lay this year. Last year was her first year to lay. She had about 5 or six eggs. My male wasn't quite old enough so I was thinking this year the two would get together and I might get some eggs to incubate. Now I have a male who is displaying like crazy and a...
That's how I discoverd my chicken had started laying again this spring. I found the dog rolling an egg around. I thought, "Oh good. The chicken started laying again. " Come to find out the chicken had 19 eggs in the dog house!
I'm in the same boat right now. I have one duck who is "half broody". She does the same thing. She sits all day until I let the others out to free range and she just can't sit anymore. Then she gets up and leaves the nest. I've always marveled at the commitment a mother bird could make, just...
Not sure what your set up is but could they be hiding them? In the past when I don't get the usual amount of eggs for a couple days I start searching for new spots. My ducks will actually bury the eggs or find a different nesting spot under, behind or on top of something else.
I also agree...
I'm so sorry for all the hassle and heartaches. I came close to having a problem with my ducklings. (Not a problem from the hatchery). I ordered from McMurray and was watching and waiting for the phone call from the post office. I did call them a week before and gave them a heads up that the...
Last year two of my runners decided to use the same nest. The problem was they didn't really know how to share very well. They ended up fighting over the nest, kicking each other out and consequently breaking the eggs so none of them hatched.
There's really no way around it. The water will need to be changed frequently. You need a way to siphon or drain it. I know it's a pain but when you consider what the ducks are putting into that water......... Pools intended for people hopefully are not full of poop.
This is not about the ducks anymore. Regardless of whether or not he says you can keep the ducks now, this argument is never going to go away. We can tell by the way you talk that you want to believe he wont hurt you anymore. Well I'm sorry but from an outsiders point of view, he is and will...

So true. They are called runners for a reason. They can really scoot. And then there's everybody else, waddling behind. When it's time to come out and play they'll let you know too. Mine carry on like crazy. All talking at the same time. I let them out to free range, and zoom, they're...
