What I want to know is: once I have clipped those primary feathers, when they molt will they come back? And then I'll need to clip them again correct? (anually, if indeed that's true...).
Here's the pix, she is upright and being still. Anyone know what's happened here? this swollen area is very "warm". The "intestine" or whatever it was that was hanging out of her was about the size of a man's little finger in width.

A month ago we hatched out some chicks from out own flock. They have all been fine and growing well.then out of the blue I came home and found one chick(3weeks old) dead. We went to the Trade Days in our area and brought home two pairs of White Bantam Wyndotts, (very healthy birds) Since then...
Simple question: how long can you gather/keep quail eggs before you set them?
Same question for chicken eggs....
I've heard 7 days for quail, true?
Chicken eggs can be gathered much longer before setting but I'd like to hear from others here what sort of time lines they use.
On my recent...
Ok so they make these in 100w and 200w varieties in the ceramic version, so which one are you using? and, I guess it gets pretty cold in Long Island? I'm in south Texas....
Or are you using one of these?
So "if" you have an egg with a sort of gelatinous substance on the outside during the later days (18ish) of a hatch particularly for me anyway, after lock down and upping the humidity, that may look like this:
You'll find this inside: a partially developed chick that's gone very...
So I set these eggs on March 24th about 9:00.
I just locked down this morn @ 7:30 ish.
So I "should have" locked down this past Wed the 10th?
I can say for sure since I've never used an incubator before, that I didn't pre-warm it so it didn't even come up to temp until that afternoon...
I mean obviously it's an bulb of some sort but which kind? and what wattage? I'm building a brooder that's 48x36 inches and about 8 inches tall from floor to ceiling.
I have used about the house, both flood and spotlight bulbs, I find also those heat lamp bulbs for the food industry... like...
From this article... under coop design of all places;
https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/hatching-eggs-101
Quote: "The initiation of hatch occurs partially from the increased carbon dioxide level in the egg. This process causes the embryo to begin twitching it's muscles allowing the...
So I have the new fully "automatic" (preset) bater w/ egg turner, which is supposed to be exactly 100o.
So far it has never reached exactly 100, rather it varies from 100.5 to 100.8 so is that ok? or should I try and adjust it? There are NO explicit instructions on this that came with the...
I looked all over the home page for a "contact us" link to no avail so, I'll post this observation here.
A few weeks back I stumbled upon this BYC article/link:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/hatching-eggs-101
for detailed info for incubation, hatching and such however went to find it...
So I have the new Genisis 1588 and, the egg turner that goes with it. I set eggs this morn and put them in "large end first" that is: the large end resting in the cradle. I tried, just to see, placing an egg in pointed end first and it sat poorly in the turner.
So is pointy end up the right...
So I ordered one of these incubators and was wondering if anyone out there has any tips/solutions for any problems they may have. If any at all.
I've never used an incubator before and am planning on setting eggs this next week when it arrives.
TIA, mitch
