Has there been any obvious trauma? My Indian runner ran into the front of a parked lawnmower, she limped for about 3 weeks in total, but after week one I took her to see the exotic vet. They were convinced it was broke, I didn't think so, so we went this soft tissue damage & treated with anti...
Well I asked for runner & she shown me her with about 30 others the same. I also thought she didn't look much like a runner, didn't really notice until I got her with my 3.
So after a 90mile trip there & back. Here she is (White & grey). She's already had a spat with all 3 of mine. She's very noisy & is so fat & short compared to my 3. I'm very nervous that this could end in tears.
I will do! They should be ok to be locked in their house together tonight for bed though right? I don't want to let them out tomorrow morning to find she's been roughed up by the 3 I already have. X
Your probably right, but the way I see it is, I'm very new to ducks & personally if I had it my way, I would of preferred to just get a already paired pair but because of my wonderful partner surprising me with 3 5 week old ducks, I couldn't say no to their tiny little faces. I worry about every...
Again, thanks for the advice. i can still put them all to bed together though right? The same night? mine are currently sleeping in the garage as we have a very persistent mama fox, she didn't get to them but they went into shock for a day or 2 last time she visited & caused a little damage to...
Thanks for the advice. I'll stick with finding a female the same age or quacking, as I only wanted to add one more to equal male and female numbers & i don't think a young duckling would be happy in a separate pen on its own. Thanks again!x
So I am looking at introducing a 6 week old female runner duckling to my flock of 2 males & 1 female runners that are 13 weeks old. I was advised by some folk on here I either needed to thin out my males or add another female, due to conflict that will probably occur in the near future. Will a...
Phew! Thanks, he looked like he struggled for a second when swallowing it. I could be wrong, it could have been a snail. I walked over in his direction & clapped my hands hoping he would leave it be... I was wrong.
So I know it's normal for young ducks to swallow small rocks/stones. My 12 wk old male runner Floki just ate what I think was a stone about the size of a 10 pence peice. I thought it may have been a snail, but didn't sound like one when he was messing with it in his mouth. Anyway, he swallowed...
My local farm don't stick heygate (the feed pictured above).
They recommended this & to add oyster shell? I thought I best see what you guys think first as my local farm shop seem to specialise more in equestrian than duckies.
So their new feathers are coming through nicely! I didn't treat for parasites in the end, & the preening calmed down a little the next day, in fact, their not too bothered at all, their cheat feathers must have been really bugging them, although my garden & their house still looks like someone...
...& I haven't the heart to let them out whilst the runners are free, I have to herd the runners in whilst I let the dogs out to pee. One of my *****'s slams her paws against the floor at the ducks pen, she doesn't growl, bark, nothing. I think she would love to have a bite if she had the...
I have already checked them & I can't see any mites. I've checked their house & pen, barring the odd big black beetle & a moth or 2 I've found nothing. They are preening a lot more than normal, a good hour or more each time. Paying a lot of attention to swiping their feathers through their beaks...
They really do look terrible. I may be over reacting but as I am new to all of this & in all honesty I've never seen a molting duck, ever! Lol they have a big water tray, deep enough for a good wash, they seem to be in that more than they forage. Even though their chest's/breast area is bare (...
The vet called me back, he recommended using something from a farm/pet shop first but was reluctant to recommend an actual brand, he said there really isn't anything lisenced for ducks (confused face). Then explained if they start to show any discomfort them to take them in. So if any of you...
