I just wanted to pop back in and let everyone know that I am out of the breeding program. My silkied rooster died earlier in the summer, and I was only able to hatch 10 F1-F2 chicks all summer. I still have 3 fluffy hens, but they are not laying now. I really haven't been able to get anywhere...
So sorry about your rooster, Kelly!
And the shipped eggs are just not hatching well. I'm having pretty good luck hatching them myself this year, though. I have about 35 young silkied splash ameraucanas that I have hatched since spring.
I finally hatched my first F2 chicks yesterday (F1...

Kelly,
Sorry the eggs didn't ship well. I hope some of them hatch for you.
Hope the hen and rooster start to get along, so you can get some of your own eggs to hatch.
Great photo of the rooster with the wheatens, Bailey. Hope he is able to get you started now.
Congrats on your new chicks, Kelly!
Renee, I know how hard it is waiting for them to lay. These hens take FOREVER!!!

Yes, I need the genetics folks here, too. I assumed that putting the silkied rooster in with the F1's would raise the chances of getting the silkied chicks. I have a F1 rooster almost old enough to breed.
Oh, and as of this morning I have 6 chicks that hatched on their own (4 blue...
So sorry to hear of the recent losses. The eggs under my broody did not hatch. But I am not surprised - that hen was very erratic and did not stay on her eggs enough. Many of the eggs were developed, just didn't hatch.
But today I have eggs in the incubator hatching. One F1 is out and...
Congratulations on the hatches. Can't wait to see pictures.
Today is the day my eggs under the broody hen are due to hatch. Still 10 eggs left, but that chicken has been erratic about sitting on her nest and lately another broody has been trying to steal her eggs. I don't know if any of...
She has been solid white for about 9 months. Now she is starting to get a couple of dark spots on the tips of her wings. So I guess technically it would be light splash.
Last year I also hatched a blue one, but she lived about 6 months and died. I don't think the white one is laying yet -...
Hello Everyone! I know I have been AWOL for a while, and I will be trying to catch up with everyone's posts during the next week. I have had a rough few months because my mother was hospitalized in January and passed away in February. It took a real toll on me. Now my daughter and son-in-law...
I've been away from the forum for a pretty good while. Sorry! I have been having the worst luck with my breeding in the last few months. All of my older hens have stopped laying completely. It's been about 3-4 months since I've had any of their eggs. My younger hens born all last year have...
Very interesting, Ray! Thanks for posting your pictures. Definitely ask the breeder if they are aware of other chicks from their stock turning out with this feathering. Seems three chicks out of six is a pretty high ratio.
And the second one's coloring looks like a typical EE to me, but I'm...
Hi everyone! I've been gone from the board a while, but still checking in occasionally. My summer has been hectic - We've done some traveling, and my mother's health has been in decline. She fell from her wheelchair several weeks ago and broke vertebrae in her neck - it's been an ordeal...
Germaine, so sorry for your loss! I think the picture you posted looks like a hen. On my cockrels, the combs are small, but you can still usually see the three rows.
My silkied ameraucana chickens are very slow to mature. I have three hens from January that still aren't laying yet. Last...
