My chicks are about four weeks old and I have not yet officially introduced them to my dog. I am really nervous about it. My dog is a naturally layed back sorta guy but I know it still may happen. I had them all outside hanging out on my lap outside. My dog so them and started barking and even...
My chicks are now four weeks old. When I first got them they ran away from my hand and would not eat from my hand either. I was patient. Sometimes I would put my hand in the brooder and not touch any of the chicks to let them know they didn't need to be afraid. I would gently pet them and hold...
I have had a small hanging roost in my brooder with my four week olds for about two weeks. They love it! Now that they are getting havier the roost does not support their weight. I was curious to see how you all have gone about putting roosts in your brooders. Please let me know and feel free...
I gave my chicks some at a week old and they love it! They all refuse to eat eggs, grapes or any other treats i give them but with in a couple hours the grit is always gone.
I have a black sex-link pullet that hasn't started laying yet but is a sweetie! She will climb onto my arm without any motivation from treats! I love all my chickens but she is especially friendly. Good luck to you and your chicks!
Chickens will live anywhere between 6-10 years, though they can live shorter or longer lives depending on how they are cared for. I have heard of chickens stop laying at four years, some chickens will continue to lay for their entire lives but they will decrease in frequency as they get older.
This is a picture when she was about 6 days old she has changed a lot since then (note the yellow legs, not slate) but you can still see the coloring. I will post more recent photos tomorrow.
Just had to share my excitement about my little EE. She was 2 days old when I got her and was all white, with muffs and yellow legs. Now at two weeks she has white, peach and grey coloring on her little wings. Also something interesting, her yellow legs have turned slate blue. I am very excited...
I just got new chicks that are now 8 days old. I want them to be use to human handling but is it too early to get them out and start becoming friends? If not what is the best way to go about this? Also when can chicks start eating treats such as grapes?
Thank you!
I am getting my small flock of three by the end of this week and have just finished my small chicken coop. As I have said it is not very big and I am not sure what to do about the waterer and feeder. I am afraid they will take up all the space in the coop but obviously the chickens need food and...
