Just a tip. The boys bills will actually start to turn green. When we first got this I didn't realize that was a thing but it works like a charm. It works for swedish ducks too. :)
They are pretty new for me as well. I was on the dot with voice sexing mine so I knew early on. With rouens they all look like females until their first molt. Then they shed their baby feathers and get their grown up boy feathers.. :)
I'm pretty sure he is a boy. Have you tried voice sexing? The girls sound loud like geese and the boys are quiet and hoarse. They sound like their trying to quack but it's stuck lol
None of my ducks fly but I use YouTube for everything lol. If I had to id YouTube a ton of videos until I felt like I could it it haha. :) cute video. :)
I have a feeling it's because she will no longer be free ranging. I know if it were me I would keep them penned so they couldn't fly away. With rouens you don't have to worry so they can go where they please. We don't free range so our chickens and ducks have very big pens. :)
I was going to say something I noticed with my drake is its beak has a slight green sheen to it. It was the first thing to change. Second was the voice. :)
Rouens are basically the same thing as mallards except they are bigger. Can you take a picture with something as a size reference like a shoe or something. Then I can tell you what they are. :) also yes they are derived from the mallards.
If they are just meant as pets and not for breeding you can add any heavyweight duck as company. I have a rouen drake and 2 Swedish. I'm about to add some ancona ducks as well. :)
I have 2 Swedish and a rouen right now. It gets in the 100s here all summer and they are doing very well. We don't have a pond. We just use a kiddie pool. I freeze water in gallon jugs and float them in the pool. I also go out throughout the day and spray down the dirt to help keep them cool...
