I just posted some close ups in the raising chicks section. The first one shows leghorn/cochins mix :) They are precious! Maybe I can breed some broodiness back in the leghorns!
Well if I send both, I think you should incubate them separately...for some reason the leghorn eggs (all 7)...
It has been fun. I will definitely be looking for hatching buddies when I set up the incubator next time! Thanks Jake and all involved!
Jake your eggs will be mailed sometime in July, probably with an ice pack! The leghorns all hatched late this hatch (2 died because of this) so I think it is...
I think I lost either 4 or 3. Two leghorns started to hatch, but quit before finishing. I believe a temperature drop caused problems for them. I will leave them alone until tomorrow. The heat has been increased, so maybe they will perk up. Today is day 21.There are two eggs that do not appear to...
I'm up to 15 now, still waiting on all the leghorns to hatch. Most have pipped...one leghorn should hatch anytime now.
I love brahmas jan...one of my new chicks is a grayish colored with very feathered legs. I am guessing the daddy to be my light brahma..I have a buff brahma hen but I didn't...
13 have hatched and there are many left to come out! I had to open the incubator once to move 9 of the babies to the brooder. It was getting way to crowded in the cooler! I did go to the laundry room, heated it up, and bumped the humidity in the room first....since my humidity was already past...
One baby hatched. The egg came from a barred rock hen and it looks like the chick was fathered by my black/multi colored frizzle bantam cochin roo. I think the baby is a rooster because of the (gold) dot on its head.
I have 8 more pips!
Welcome! This is my first hatch too. Its amazing how much I have enjoyed staring at eggs through a little window lol and so exciting when it moves or chirps! Day 19, one pip so far :)
I can tell which hen lays which eggs (pretty much) so you can specify moms. I have been keeping all but the orpington roo out of the run for a short while (too many roos) but the others still get to the girls on occasion. I'd say probably a good 65-70% the blue orpington roo will be the...
ohh Jake. I'm so sorry. I hope the others thrive. If you need another batch of fertile eggs, I will send some to you for free. They are just backyard mixes, but all pure mixes and cute! I ended up with what I believe is a little australorp/bantam cochin mix pullet from my broody who I just...
Jake? Any sign of life in there??
Baconskatiedid..I'm sorry! How many have hatched?
Day 19 for me and I've seen a couple of the eggs move around a little bit.
