I'm pretty good at this usually, but im hearing everyone start to crow or squat and this silkie is just confusing. Acts like a pullet but looks more roo to me?
My Sebright pullet is only 3 months old and I caught her outside acting strange. I thought it was heat exhaustion so I brought her inside to the AC, and gave her a little bath. Two days later and shes not making progress...
Shes very droopy and letting her wings drop, shes off balance and can't...
Looks like a male & female Sebright and two female silkies? Thanks guys! (two months old. I bought them a couple days old from TSC. Bought 8 and was left with just these four sadly...)
It looks like broken lacing but with Americana puffy cheeks! Love to her bits - Shes 25% bearded Silkie & 75% Serama! Even her comb is adorable! :)
Is there a name for this type of patterning? Or does she just look like a fool to all the poultry fanciers that go by the book haha!
So my top mother hen decided to leave 3 chicks behind and stick with one runt that hatched. In an egg-topsy, the eggs she refused to sit on any longer were deformed and dead in the egg. But this one little runt is confusing me.
(s)he's almost 8 weeks old and is growing very slowly. (s)he eats...
All you sexing experts, I need a second opinion! All these babies are 7 weeks. 75% Serama 25% splash bearded Silkie!
Chick 1: 99% sure he's a little rooster
Chick 2: thinking hen? (loving her color!)
Chick 3: roo?
Chick 4: no idea!
Ive had the pleasure of watching this beauty grow from an accidentally misplaced egg, to six month old mama's boy/ deputy of the flock. (His mother is of course the leader...)
Then after leaving for a month and a half, I came home to this guy:
He is the most stunning rooster I've seen...
I have two, two month old chicks. Theyre a cross between Serama and Silkie...and possibly some
accidental Sumatra...talk about an awkward cross!
So far I'm thinking the first birchen chick is a roo & the black chick is a pullet?
I recently took my Sumatra to the vet and was diagonsed with a crippling knee/lower femur injury. She's currently on two medications twice a day and I am determined to give her as much life as she would without her handicap. Ive been thinking of ways to construct wheelchairs or walkers for her...
These two beautiful guys are coming in with wonderful color (waiting for a couple stubborn white feathers to go away) but does anyone have any sexing ideas so far? I think #1 is a female and #2 may be male because I'm thinking im seeing saddle feathers but Sumatras one of the worst to sex...
My best friend just got a flock of new chickens and this beautiful hen is so perfecf I want to add one to my flock but I can't pick what breed(s) she is!
She has a red single comb and waddles but white earlobes, and light to dark laced feathers.
I think she may be a bielefelder?
These two chicks are almost a week old,
Chick 1 (suspected pullet)
Chick 2 (suspected cockerel)
The two more chicks below came from two pure black Sumatras but their wings are black and white, so sadly I got two splash Sumatras instead of blacks unless the white grows out...
Chick 3...
So after a solid 26 days of my hen brooding on four eggs, none of them made it. One was alive when I accidentally opened the aircell, but died a couple hours later, unfortunately.
After that huge loss, I decided to buy a dozen eggs. I knew I was in trouble when I found a box on my doorstep and...
I was cracking open all the eggs since they were 26 days overdue and 3/4 were dead - but the last one I half opened and it started bleeding. A pulse?! Baby started kicking and I threw him in the incubator. SOS!
If I try peeling membrane away it bleeds so baby isnt ready yet - do I keep it in...
My Serama hen has been sitting on 4 viable eggs for what would be about 24 days now. I checked on day 19 for live eggs vs dead eggs and got left with the 4 moving, live babies. Since then the temperatures hae dropped to around 30 and my hen would be kicked off the nest by my bigger hen for only...
...of her clutch). :lau
Today I tried candling to a very unhappy hen and saw nothing. I figured with two roosters in the flock and her collecting *everyones* eggs there had to be something! I took out one little egg and cracked it on a rock to see anything and behold, I'm a chick murderer (I...
My family bought me a Silkie chick as a present after my beloved Silkie roo died chasing a fox away from my flock. She was too young to join my flock when I first had her so I kept her in my room with food and water and pillows and cuddles.
Now that she's bigger (maybe 3-4 months?) I wanted to...
I have a little frizzle pullet and she's always been at the bottom of the pecking order but all of a sudden i've noticed shes missing feathers along her back and wings! I was thinking overbreeding by one of my roosters possibly but I haven't seen her lay an egg since winter so I'm thinking molt...
...incubated 4 Jersey Giant babies who hatched Feb 16th! I've been raising Seramas, and Silkies, so these babies look 3 months old, nevermind almost 3 *weeks*. I was hoping for some advice on their sexes? I think 1, 3, & 4 are going to be hens by their attitudes and long tail feathers but Ive...
