I have a broody Auracauna who sits nearly all the time and a polish who sits sometimes. I've seen egg stop from her mouth and I found ( really lost hope we'd get any chicks) a baby chick with 4 wounds like this. She didn't make it. A second one found refuge under the full time broody and is...
At my house, it started with
1 and now there's about 6 who are coughing. It sounds like a bark. Even as they are roosting at night they are coughing and hacking up water. They don't really seem to feel bad. First I thought one might be chocking or that they needed some gravel to help grind...
My neighbor has a chicken who has been like this for two months. She seems to be bullied by one other hen. I hadn't heard that she has any other incident but when she is brought out will only stay for 5 minutes or so then back in her next box. First thought she was ill but now just seems...
Let me know when you find out. We are trying to put different grasses and barley and such in our yard. Planted some pine trees since that is what the neighbor has that they like so much. Making it interesting at home. Did this for my cats and it worked fairly well.
I have a 7 mos old too who isn't that large but he doesn't crow, he barks. Dont know his breed yet :(. Read about Indonesian laughing chickens today so I know some make strange sounds. Oh, my too seems fine, has just always barked.

Oh, quite like a man too? Lol!
We too seem to get those but I think it may be a hen who lays less frequently. We got one that was a tad larger than an inch in diameter yesterday and this past week two "ghost" eggs; see through and very weak and gel like. Newest layers, I think, as all are...
I would like to hatch some eggs but don't really know how yet. Will a hen who likes to sit on them hatch them perhaps? My girls tend to warm each others eggs.
Almost all of our coop was made from craps we found around town. My favorite part is the gate, it is made from a late 1800s twin sized headboard. Heavy metal. :)
Prayers ascending. After my marriage of 20 years I was divorced and the only relief I found was building a coop with a friend and bringing in 30 chicks. That was last fall. This is the best diversion I could ever ask for after the loss of my job that followed the divorce. So healing. Let...
