Questions about researching ancestry, cemeteries, and such other interesting tidbits about people who have been long dead.
Be nice. :old
I have two cockerels that I am looking at.
1. Has a MUCH better overall body size, width between legs, stance, etc, etc. a very good breeder choice...except for his tail! :barnie
If what he has isn't a squirrel tail... Well it sure is close to one, and what he has isn't good.
2. Has a...
I have been trying to breed dark brown rose comb Leghorns. My original stock is very nice, and has many good points. The problem was that this spring I found myself without a cock.
I ordered in a set of eggs and hatched them out, and MUCH to my enormous disappointment I actually hatched out...
Come one, come all!
What are you planning to incubate?
Hatching on August 8th means that chicken eggs would go in the incubator on the 18th.
I am going to incubate quail eggs, so mine should go in on the 21.
(I will not incubate more chicks, I will not incubate more chicks, I will not...
OK....
After having chickens for years, I decided that I was going to stop buying from hatcheries, and pick breeds that:
1. Would be very unlikely to suffer from frostbite (so no single combs)
2. Were heritage, very old historical breeds
3. Were CHEERFUL colors (so, in the...
OK.....
this summer I installed poop trays, and started using PDZ for my chickens. I love it. I also love the extra floor space the poop trays give me.
Can I do something similar with ducks?
My ducks are happy to go up a wide shallow pitch ramp.
Could I set up a second story in the...
I want a breed that has a small comb, lays well, and comes in an interesting and cheerful color. I like some pattern, I don't find solid colors as attractive. Also, it should be possible to obtain a rooster that doesn't like to kill people.
I love the Golden Campine breed. PERFECT color in an...
OK....in a place where I have no problems with moisture and condensation....
I want to put up insulation, and then something easier and cheaper and faster than a second plywood layer.
I know a lady who used Typar (that black cloth that is put under a gravel road), and it worked pretty well...
OK, I have been searching through the old posts and can't find the info.
I want to stick my perch as high as possible, but the chickens will have to fly up to the perch.....
So....how much space do I need above the perch?
I would guess that I need 18" of space from the top of the perch to...
OK, PLEASE help me out here.
I would love some sympathy, but if anyone has any other suggestions, that would be good too.
I grew up with chickens, and have raised my own for a few years now. I have also read lots on BYC.
My about four week chickens started to EAT each other!
Like huh?
I...
I keep looking and looking, and can not find a website or app or Anyang with the answers to my questions!
So please help!
I want to redo my coop and run......
I want to insulate my uninsulated coop an 8x8
So, it looks like I should buy fiberglass insulation and then cover that insulation...
...There is also a horizontal vent up high on the wall that the coop shares with the shed, and that one can always be open.
Now I know that that *totally* goes against how much venting you are supposed to have per chicken, but it gets way too cold and drafty if I open the windows any wider...
...heat lamps. There are 10 chicks, 2 female Faverolles. The others are 2 EEs, 3 bantam Wyandottes, 2 bantan brahmas, and 1 standard Wyandotte.
It *WAS* colder than the chicks liked when I tossed them out. The Wyandotte bantams looked more unhappy than the others, BUT the Faverolles were...
OK, I looked through all of the coop plans on this site......and I just wasn't that impressed with the runs.
I now need to have my runs covered 24/7 because of some very hungry eagles...and it is just plain ugly.
Any other pictures for me to look at?
Thank you!
Please help!
I have SEVEN female ducks and the one drake.
I have no idea why, but the drake picks on just one of the ducks, he is fine with all the rest. This one picked on duck keeps running away from the drake but he keeps catching her and ripping out her neck feathers. All of the feathers...
OK....after reading the frostbite stuff, I understood that as long as the chicken is still acting fine, that I can ignore the frost bite areas and they will fall off when they are completely dead. At that point, some anti-biotic might be good depending on how the spot looks, but otherwise...
