Free Barred Orpington. New York State.
He is 9 mos old (cockrel), father and grandfather are friendly...so a good sign :)
Willing to bring him to you if reasonable distance.
I have 14 gals who need a friendly, gentle fellow who won't be super hard on them. I'm willing to travel to get him. A buff is my first choice, but I am willing to consider any really docile rooster. I have grandchildren and I want to know that they're safe when around the coop.
I've raised chickens before, but we are planning on raising some chicks, ducks and turkeys. There won't be many of each, so I'm concerned about the differences and want to be sure they are all safe and getting what they need.
I spoke with an expert related to feed and now know that wet mash is...
Full disclosure... I know nothing about ducks.
My uncles farm has lots of ducks... mostly mallards and mixes. They live on an open stream and hatch out babies in the barn. One was left in the box stall and it's got a damaged/closed eye with another cut above it. Probably couldn't find it's...
My gal, Michele, has been having trouble walking. I don't see any problems with her lower legs or feet. She's doesn't have lice or worms. She does lay eggs... though seldom as expected with her age. Her comb is bright and her feathers have luster.
Each day when she leaves the coop she eats...
So I assume they all do. I'm wondering if it is best to wash him first or just give him meds. I've got ivermectin in drops. I have been giving them cayenne pepper for a few weeks because I was going to worm them, but seeing that he's infested has me convinced I should do it sooner than later...
Americauna Roo free to good home. I love him, but he's really in need of his own flock of gals. If you have a flock that needs a good roo, Mr. Whitestone has learned from Wilbur the master at warning about hawks and keeping the gals happy. He's been hatched and raised by a momma hen and very...
For the last few weeks my roo Wilbur, has had a problem with his comb. It's not due to frostbite since the weather has been quite warm and the coop was never really too cold this year.
I've looked at the comb problems listed and don't see a match. He's got this on both sides, but not...
I've have had a wonderful BO roo for 4 years and he is great with the gals and with people. One of last spring's hatchlings is an Americauna cockerel. He is now crowing and attempting to mate with some of the gals. It is causing a bit of a ruckus in the yard. (I have 1/2 acre for the...
Kill the chicken and freeze it... to be processed later?
What I mean is I was going to use the cone tonight and after they died I was going to put them in a bag in the freezer and then later... in a few days, eviserate.
Is this safe or should I do it all at once?
thanks,
Colleen
I am a sucker for a broody hen and typically give her a couple of eggs to sit on and set her in a special pen...etc.... BUT enough is enough I have waaay too many chickens now and 5 gals started going broody again!
I tried cold compresses and water bathes, but they didn't work and honestly...
I was closing up the coop in the middle of the night cause it's soooo hot and there were a ton of mosquitos around me. Do they bother the chickens too? I was thinking that they might get their combs and waddles... not sure. They sure got me.
Thanks
I am looking to put a few baby chicks under a broody hen. I am willing to pickup at hatch time.
I live in southern NY, so aside from NY, anywhere in north NJ, W CT, W Ma would work.
Americaunas, Aracaunas, EEs, Delaware, Wyandottes. Prefer winter hardy and good lines, if possible
Thanks
Colleen
I've got 2 momma and 3 babies - not alot right now, but seems that they cannot get the little one back into the coop at night. one momma goes inside and the other seems to stay outside. They hid under her. Now when I push her into the coop the 3 little babies just peep peep peep and don't get...
Dora was off the eggs more then she was on them...or so it seemed - one already hatched today.
Now why is it that I have used a hygrometer and thermometer and all the blessed equipment and sponges and straw tubes with dripping water and I could only hatch out about 20% and these gals can just...
I've been cleaning up an extra pen where my little hatchling will be staying... momma's are sitting on eggs about to hatch later this week.
Am I the only one who gets this foul odor... I think it's a combo of rotting old feed, pine shavings from last year, and moisture. I dug down and...
I've got a cuckoo marans - around 3 years old - she was acting listless and so I noticed she had lice... thought that was it. treated her and all the others, cleaned out the coops, followed up 2 weeks later.
Well she's worse than ever. She kinda squats all the time. Doesn't seem to care...
