I wonder if anyone has info about the Augusta County Chicken Swap at Augusta Expo in Fishersville. I can't seem to find online information like I did last year.
Well nevermind, i just found out they are not doing it this year.
Mine are doing better now. I have nine that are able to lay. Yesterday I got six eggs which is my highest number since I got the chicks in September. We've had two raising chicks and some moulting and some that had not started laying until January.
I have
5 Doms (1 is my roo)
1 Red Sex Link
1 EE (brown eggs)
1 olive egger
1 Partridge Rock
1 black Phoenix bantam
3 8-9 week old mixed chicks
2 almost 2 week old Dom mixed chicks
I always forget it is in.my signature.
I would love a small barn.....but I don't think its happening so I will be happy with the plans of enlarging my coup. And I need a gate to keep the chicken poop off the porch. And of course, I want more birdie's.
I have finally made the decision not to keep bees. I don't want to draw the bears...
She had the babies outside the day after they hatched! I have never hatched any eggs in an incubator or bought day old chicks ....its hard for me to realize how long they need to stay under a heat lamp after seeing these babies running thru the snow. They are just over a week old now. Yesterday...
First out this morning was mama with the week old babies! I was going to bring feed to them but she brought them out quickly. All the others came outside much more slowly, but they finally made it. There was only an inch of snow ...but that is pretty high on those little bitty chick legs!
Sigh what do I need if I can't resist chicks from the feed store? A tub for them and a light to keep them warm? I have all the bedding and feed and feeders. I would much rather put them under a hen but if they are not the right age at the right time.....sigh sigh sigh......
I will try to watch...
My little phoenix girl seems to have been interrupted in her laying. She was laying almost an egg every day. Saturday she seemed to be in the nest a long time....without thinking I reached in to give her a pet. She startled and flew out of the nest.....but I checked a bit later and she was back...
What breeds of chickens are usually sold at feed stores? I don't guess it matters for me as I have broodies and no other way to raise them.....but I know if I go look at them I will want some of them. Hmmm......
That's about what happened....but I will say she was very pleasant......that counts for something...lol. I don't know this but suspect that the swap moved from Staunton Tractor Supply to Expo.......Beverley Cline is in charge, I believe.
