Thanks! Melinda35 and Willowbranchfarm, I really appreciate your replys ... love the avatar pic of your dog, too, Melinda35. I have a choc lab/pit mix that looks nearly the same. Yes, I think "he" will be very pretty when he grows to maturity, as well. Wish I could keep him but I can't. Good...
...may I please have your opinions on whether my "ameraucana" (most likely an easter egger) is a Rooster or a Hen? These pullets are 8 weeks old. **The one in question is the brown/black/white multi colored chicken**. I have been feeling this chicken, due to the shape and growth of its tail...
Congratulations! Proxieme ... I love Welsummers, beautiful chickens and eggs! the chicks we bought five weeks ago have been my first chickens since I was a child. My daughters have been having a wonderful time with all the chicks. I wish they could have been home when the mail order chicks...
our new chicks arrived this morning! all alive, all eating and drinking, napping under the brinsea brooder. They were hatched on Monday the 26th. Tracking said they would arrive yesterday by 12 noon, but the post office called me at 8 am this morning to pick them up. My order was placed with...

Happy Chickens!
oh! and, not that I would advocate handling chicks in such a manner, but have you ever watched "chicken factory - how it's made"? it is about what happens at the hatchery from incubation to shipped in the mail, or delivered on trucks ... we had to pick our jaws up off the floor after watching...
my daughters are older, 8 and 10, and they take the chicks out several times a day for 30 minutes to 1 hour stretches. Our chicks are 1 week old. We have been handling them in this way, daily, since we got them at 1 day old. As long as your chicks arrive healthy and are thriving, there is no...
great pics! Congratulations!!
what breeds did you pick?
I have been treating my new chicks with "Farmers' Helper UltraKibble for Chicks" (mixed in their starter feed), and also "Farmers' Helper BabyCake for Chicks" (a couple hours a day per the bags instructions). This morning I am treating...
hard bolied egg yolk (only feed the yolk) and can you pick up some "Sav-A-Chick Electrolyte & Vitamin Supplement", locally? if not keep with the sugar water. hope your 2 little chicks make it.
our brooder, built by my husband : sides, bottom and back were pre-cut and pre-sanded plywood, bought at home depot. Sides = 24" x 24". Bottom panel and back panel = 24" x 48". To keep it light we used 3/8" for the bottom, and 11/32 for the sides and back. In keeping it light, we also only...

I would say, after age 4 weeks you can play together with them outside
Enjoy your new chicks! :)
we LOVE our Brinsea ecoglow (only 4 chicks at this time, so ecoglow20 in use). I feel it's the most hassle free, natural brooding "lamp". and, yes, I agree, the plug is warm. I have mine pluged into a GFCI outlet.
