So I ordered 50 button quail eggs from a group on yahoo. I lost 5 in transport, 3 were duds, and less than half of the ones left hatched. Since then I have lost 3. They are just over 2 weeks old and I am looking for a better place to purchase button quail eggs in case I want to hatch them again.
Today I had one of my females going after the the other female. They have never had a problem before. Just yesterday they got switched to a smaller cage and in my 2nd cage the male has started to crow. I took the female that was picking the fight and put her in an empty cage. IS it because they...
I have tried hobbling the legs together but it just isn't working, The little bugger keeps getting out of it. What else can I do? Do they eventually fix themselves? My husband things I should try small rubber bands. Will those work?
I had pips when I woke up yesterday and the first one hatched at about 6 last night. Since then I have had 8 BQ hatch and 2 from my tibetan eggs. I have about 35 BQ left and 13 tibetans. I lost one that pipped but then died in the egg. I have done nothing productive today because I am obsessing...
So I have button quail going into lockdown tomorrow and I am confused as to their living arrangement when they are older and out of the brooder. I have read where I should only have 2 to a cage but then I also see where people raise them in groups. I can't decide on what kind of cage to build, lol
I don't know if you can tell from this picture because I just can't figure out the sexes. They all look alike to me and I can't vent sex without getting pooped on.
Lol
At the feed store yesterday I was talking to a lady who used to raise quail and she said that she would sex them at about 2 weeks on size since females are bigger them males at that point. Is that true or just coincidence.
I put 18 eggs from my quails in the incubator thinking that if I was lucky a few would be fertile. I just candled them and only 1 is a dud so far
I'm shocked but happy!
My three coturnix are such nervous nellies. My tibetans and tuxedo are so calm and will actually eat out of my hand but my coturnix freak out and run around the cage whenever I am near them. Anyone elses like that?
So I got this the other day before we went out of town and didn't have a chance to look at the protein content. When I looked today I couldn't find it. Does anyone know what it is?
I will be incubating some BQ eggs next week and I wanted to also throw in some from my tibetans to see if they were fertile. Would it be ok since they have different incubation times?
I was giving them some crickets earlier and every time one of my hens would catch one Bud the Stud would run up behind them and have his way. Who knew crickets are quail aphrodisiac
