Looks like Dark Angel left me a little gift before he moved on. A son with no split wing. He has a brother that is much overcolored, but this one is lovely despite his marbled eye color.
Thank you! Yes Chooks man named him. Here are what pictures I could dig up on this phone.
The chicks in the picture are the clutch Nemesis (Dark Angel's son and current yard rooster) was hatched from. I think that was summer two years ago.
Here is a closeup of Dark Angel.
Yes they are, but it is the nature of the beast. lol
And thank you. He had a good long rein and had a good life. He didn't appear to be in significant pain with his bumblefoot until the end. He limped and walked funny but still ate well and appeared to have decent quality of life so we let...
I've missed you all too! It's good to be back to the thread!
:wee
A lot has happened I guess. We recently had to put Dark Angel down. Until then he had been the head honcho rooster in the yard. He had gotten heavy and was lame in his feet. Severe bumblefoot. I didn't want to put him...
Wanted to pop in and say hey! Sorry for the hiatus from BYC. Covid was rough at the hospital where I work and I kinda put chickens on the back burner and went into survival mode with all the OT and chaos. I'm sorry I lost touch with BYC. Everything is better now that Covid has fizzled out...
Sorry all, for my absence. I've had a lot of things going on. My son's virtual learning keeps me busy. I also work on a busy and packed covid unit in critical care and we have had a lot of short staffing lately. We are losing many nurses to travel. Travel agencies are recruiting them and...
Hubby is building me a new grow out pen with a solid floor so varmints can't dig in. I can't take another year of this. Believe it or not, I can handle raccoons and possums taking grown birds free ranging better than rats killing and eating my babies! At least you can set traps and shoot...
Thank you! I have my remaining best grow outs in a different coop and they are old enough to roost so I pray they stay safe. All I need is a few good birds to breed forward for next year. It has been hell this year..
It could be Mareks if treatment otherwise fails. Check her pupils, are they overly dilated? That could be a sign of neurological disease or lesions in the brain. Hopefully the treatment that has been previously posted works for you.
It is considered a fault if it is in excess, it is said over 10% is too much amongst some show Marans folks. It is not a DQ. Judges want to see very little to no chest leakage in show. However, chest leakage on males can be useful in the breeding pen but it shouldn't be excessive. I...
I'm so sorry! That is terrible. :(
I've had the same run of bad luck this year, time and again! I had 3 very nice and clear eyed marans grow outs in a large outdoor brooder with some young Games a few days ago I've been watching closely. A cockerel and two pullets, all starting to show...
Funny you should mention that about Game being in the makeup of Marans. Dark Halo has become so intolerable that watering him in his pen became very difficult due to his aggression. I was going to work with big chunks bitten out of my hands and arms. So I snatched him out if the pen one day...
If it is your property and not in an area where there are zone restrictions then who cares about what the neighbors want. What you have and do on your property is your business. Just make sure the chickens are confined and cant wander over to the neighbors.
