Thanks guys...... It's good to have your support.
Celtic we did find a SQ pastel drake that a guy in Illinois got from Holderread just this fall. I'm really trying to come up with the cash or trade to get him and the hen. The other ones I had found were not very good quality so I did have to...
Thanks Marty
Unfortunately they are right back there with him. I tried to make her stay but nope they are both going to leave alcohol alone from now on and work on being better. I heard this a year an a half ago so I don't believe a word of it. The boys will have there christmas but I don't want...
One place was not so I'm down to looking at seeing if I can manage to come up with the money for the show quality pastel silkie drake or come up with enough chicks from this hatch to do a trade with some Marans and Silkie chicks. He also had a hen that had to go with the deal but his price is a...
Nice group of birds Celtic.
Our ducks usually lay in the cold too and it's a struggle to get them before freezing. Since the cold cold stuff got here they backed off a bit then we had some warm weather which was nice and they started back up heavy. Now that more cold is headed I'm sure they...
Due to an unfortunate bobcat attack we lost 6 of our silkie ducks of the 6 all 3 of our drakes fell victim to the bobcats we now are left with 6 hens and no drakes to continue on our breeding program. We are in search of a drake for our flock. I'm located in west central missouri but will travel...
We are pretty much 1 hour straight south of Kansas City, MO. Closest Kansas town to us is Lacygne which we often go to durring warm weather to ride the horse trails out at the lake or just take a vacation with the camper out there. Feed and udder massaging helps to get them to drop the milk...

You should be able to tell the difference by her voice. If it is a soft deep wispy noise then drake, if loud honk it's a hen. Sometimes if a drake has molted recently he will not have a curled drake feather until it grows back in and obviously if they are young and haven't grown their drake...
Hi Christine, Well why don't you have anything hatching? This is the perfect time to get in some early hatches so they will be laying around spring time. To be honest I only have 1 chick hatched out from last weeks hatch. I bought a digital GQF 1502 sportsman cabinet incubator for this coming...
...65 degrees and the next it's 30 degrees I'm not a fan of winter!
Hatching news for me! Got a handful of chicken eggs in lockdown as of today.
*Wheaten Marans (Possibly some olive eggers since the Ameraucana rooster is in there with the Marans rooster)
*Mixed Layers (Marans or Ameraucana...
Owl,Eagle,or other winged predator seem very likely to be the culprit here. Definitely address the predator issue first. I've seen a lonely duck live in peace with chickens, but the chickens were not too happy about the situation because the duck always messed the water and would sit in the...
I think the most important thing is to provide shelter for them. We usually do a thick bedding of either pine shavings or straw in their shelters. The ducks actually do better than the chickens in cold climates. Here we only get to -5 or so on our coldest nights. The ducks will huddle together...
Sounds to me like he may have gotten into something toxic. Could have been pesticide residue or many many other possibilities. The good news is that he seems to be getting better so just continue to watch him I might limit his foraging area if he is finding something over at the neighbors though.
Today was quite a surprise in the egg department! Starting to look like my girls will be back to work within a week. I've been getting a couple everyday now but today all but 2 girls laid.
Would like some opinions on my Mille rooster from you guys. He is much better type than my last rooster but the MF's are a work in progress as is everything else.
I love the Marans roosters. My very first Marans roo was and is the best rooster that I have ever had the pleasure to own, he is a cuckoo marans from a hatchery and huge! My neighbor was so scared of him because she thought he was a barred rock and she had a bad experience with a barred rock...
