Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Well mabey the eggs arent fertile... because we started incubating in september and we got 15 ducklings all of the eggs after the laid date of 10/20 were not fertile. (this is our first year too) we had 40 eggs sposed to hatch I candled them all only to find that they all werent fertile. so were putting up the incubator for the year. we learned from my uncle that ducks are like chickens and have to have 16 hours of sunlights or they will not fertilize.

Seramas are sometimes hard to hatch. The eggs I set before were all fertile, but quit developing (except the shipped eggs. Only one of 18 of those started to develop). I'm wondering if the parents were too closely related or something genetically wasn't "clicking." Who knows. This is a new silkie hen with the same roo, so maybe that will make a difference.

I had much better luck with duck eggs.

tired after a full day here. 2 hours total start to finish for our annual testing. Now why on earth did I ever pick December for our test month?

Julie hope you hear from your tester soon.

Thanks Celtic, me too. I really want it done within the next few months, before spring.
I got 22! japanese eggs from chicks today, so I have a full incubator. So, now that I have no room in there I will not be surprised if everyone starts laying tomorrow, lol.

Long time since I've been on this thread here at BYC!
How is everyone?

Sure glad our testing is in May because I don't think December testing would be any fun here. Although you never know what the weather is going to be like especially last year and this year. One day it's 65 degrees and the next it's 30 degrees

I'm not a fan of winter!

Hatching news for me! Got a handful of chicken eggs in lockdown as of today.
*Wheaten Marans (Possibly some olive eggers since the Ameraucana rooster is in there with the Marans rooster)
*Mixed Layers (Marans or Ameraucana crossed on barred rock, SLW and white rock hens)
*Paint Silkie's
*1 Mille Fleur Cochin

Next the middle of next week I should have Saxony ducks and a few Snowy Mallards hatching.

Mille Fleur Rooster just saying Hi

Hi CC. It's pretty slow here right now. Not much hatching going on.

Hi Christine, Well why don't you have anything hatching? This is the perfect time to get in some early hatches so they will be laying around spring time. To be honest I only have 1 chick hatched out from last weeks hatch. I bought a digital GQF 1502 sportsman cabinet incubator for this coming year. I found out the hard way the humidity doesn't need to be as high as in my cooler incubators so now that I've fixed that I'm hoping to start getting some hatches out of the thing. I do love not having to fuss with the temperature though and now that I know about the humidity being so different I shouldn't have to fuss with that much either.

Morning all....... we have some cream legbars due soon, some light brahmas and the first sebbies due right around Christmas too.
Morning Celtic. We have some eggs due Christmas Eve and on New Years Day. Since getting the new Incubator I'm setting every week so that we can be hatching every week. I do kind of wish I had one for ducks and one for chickens but I spent way to much on birds this year to afford that.

I do have some Serama eggs incubating, but I never have any luck with them, so I'm not holding my breath. Nobody else is laying now; I don't use lights.

Sounds like you'll be all set once you figure out the settings on the new incubator.
