    Outcast Sebright

So I'm hoping somebody can help me...I would rather not rehome my hen but I'm starting to feel like I might need to. I have a mixed flock of around 25 birds, all standard sized except for 1 sebright (I had 6 of them that slowly got taken by hawks, she's the last one). These chickens have all...

    NY chicken lover!!!!

Thanks everyone for the kind words and offers of your roosters :) I knew it wouldn't be difficult to find a replacement haha people are usually more than happy to get rid of them. I'm going to wait until the spring when my isolation coop is not snowed in and when I know 100% what I'm going to...

    NY chicken lover!!!!

I lost my favorite roo to a hawk attack today :( evil thing ate him right in the doorway to the coop. It's all my fault too, this morning I heard the blue jays making a ruckus and I still let them out. I feel terrible... The little guy was missing his toes due to frost bite but he was still a...

So sorry for your loss Pyxis :( that's terrible and one of my biggest fears. There isn't much you can do to protect against that. In other news this is how I felt when I came inside this morning:

Bumblefoot surgery - with pics and "how to"

I'm 99% sure it's frostbite. My fayoumi had all his toes turn black and fall off last winter when it was freezing. He is absolutely fine now and he was the only one in the flock. They all shriveled up and fell off. He's also the only moron that stands in the snow for hours and roosts without...

    NY chicken lover!!!!

I have a mixed flock, some leghorns, basic red production and then a whole bunch of other breeds, some that I hatched myself (red comet, buff orp mix). They are just coming out of a molt which might be doing it as well... I don't want to add light to their coop but I think I'm going to have to :(

    NY chicken lover!!!!

I'm so jealous of those of you who are getting eggs. I'm getting an egg a day, maybe 2 if I'm lucky...I have 28 hens I understand the 2 year olds not laying but the 1 year olds should be giving me more than 2... My coworkers are getting anxious for eggs and keep bringing egg cartons in for me...

    NY chicken lover!!!!

I buy my feed from Snow's (It's on Rt. 66 maybe 10 minutes or so away from APHS). It's not organic but it's $13 for a 50lb bag of Southern States feed. I'm not sure if they even carry organic....

    NY chicken lover!!!!

I just switched over to the rubber pans this year and I LOVE IT. I wish I did it sooner...though I've gotten in the habit of just dumping them out at night and refilling them in the morning so there isn't too much ice to bang out.

    NY chicken lover!!!!

Gramma I am so sorry about your hen :( Also, abuot hens not seeing well at night...you're telling me...I have a hen that has decided to roost under the coop at night so every night I have to pick her up and bring her inside. She is a very skittish EE but in the pitch black I can grab her no...

    NY chicken lover!!!!

The two of mine who are/were sick (the one that past and the one that looks bad now) were 2 year old red production from TSC...same exact symptoms and they were/are eating...but had the liquid green poo and puffed up and lethargic. Everyone else is running around happily.

    NY chicken lover!!!!

It's just very odd. What's the strangest part to me is it seems to be the girls/guys in the same coop. I have two coops one with 1 year olds and one with the 2 year olds and it seems to be sticking with the 2 year olds. They just get very lethargic and stand around with their eyes closed and...

I <3 my tick twister! I also had special tweezers for them but I like the twister. I find that the dawn dish soap doesn't really work for me.

    NY chicken lover!!!!

Thanks everyone for your condolences on Stella's death :( Unfortunately it seems to be some sort of disease or illness running through the flock. I haven't lost anymore yet but I have a few more that are standing around looking sluggish and some green poops. They aren't egg bound, they don't...

    NY chicken lover!!!!

That's the running theory...or some kind of bad infection. Either way she didn't make it through the night... :( RIP my little Stella. I just wish I knew what was wrong with her. It was so sudden and by the time I got to her I guess it was just too late...
