Hi all (I apologize if this is posted in wrong spot....I really stink at choosing where to post) This is my chickens first snow (and my first snow having chickens) I need to salt my steps and pad so my dog wont break a leg or something worse. I bought that driveway salt that says its safe for...
Hi all. I recently broke my coller bone (and surgery to bolt it back together), which has been just awesome;) Anyway, I haven't been able to get to the feed store until today but the past 3wks or so my hens have been living off dry cat food and house scraps. I tried to give them their normal...
OMG,raw BACON!? Is this an inside joke or something? Can't you die from that? I used to date a girl that would eat raw hamburger meat, but she was crazy as a bat. I had no idea other people did/do this. :/
She came back sometime yesterday. I just propped the gate open in the morning and she made her way back, thankfully. I think she slept in the recycle can, cause I found an egg right on top lol
Dumb bird :P
Hello all, I let my flock out for the first time yesterday (they free-range,but the area is fenced in,about 100x100,and they sleep in their coop at night). Well, yesterday I decided to let them out of the gate and roam around the rest of the yard (5acres of woods) I watched them throughout the...
To Angiebubs Was trying to pm,but can't figure that part out yet. Just wanted to thank-you for the advice. And just wanted to apologize for the slow response. (phone problems:) and still trying to figure out new format. Thanks again. Craig
Umm. Quick question. Where do y ou put the vasoline? Like, all over the hen? It's feet? I've never heard of this, but am worried that they are cold with the 30 degree nights we have been having and their complete refusal to sleep in the coop. Thank you
Welp, that's it. Looks like I'm eating 'store bought' and cats are getting my hens eggs! I'm a super germ a phobe,so all it takes is ONE person to say its not good and I'm out! Its like when I ask "is this lunch meat good?) And they say "smell it"...If I have to smell something to know if its...
...out. Please help...I have like 3 dozen eggs and could kill for a wild mushroom omlet right about now. Do you think the cat food will effect the eggs in any way? Thank you for taking the time to read this. All comments welcome (you can call me a d**ba*s if you want LOL I'm new, what do you want:)
...for about a month or so (and HOLY COW! I had no idea six little hens could lay so many eggs! Maybe someone close by (Buena) could border them for a small fee? I can have someone bring all the food or whatever they need. *wonders* " Do they have places like that"?
Missing them already . Craig
Ok. I finally have the day off to finish my Coop! I've had three cups of coffee, have the day off ,and ready to roll. Now if the sun would just hurry up and come out,I'd be in business! I'm about to bust out the portable lights! BTW, good morning everybody:)
I had the same thing happen last night! Well, sort of. I have been no,ticing something has been digging under my coop for the past week or so. So last night (without looking first) I opened the sliding glass door to let my dog out (a catahoula,BTW that is a sweetheart with my chicks) took off...
This is a worry of mine also. I've heard that as long as the coop in not drafty then you are ok..But the coop has to be vented, right? My coop is built like a real house, with vented vinyl soffits and gable vents..so I'm guessing it gets pretty drafty..Should I block off the vented vinyl soffit...
