Here is a pair I rescued from the auction. It's the first time my wife and I have ever owned any . So as you can figure I have a question about them. In the second pic I have highlighted a broken tail feather, will that repair it's self or can it be plucked out to improve his looks?
My son wants...
she sat on 15 eggs and 8 hatched before she decided to start getting out of the nesting box. i'm happy with over half hatching. no they all were not hers...there was EE,whiterock, barredrock, newhampshire red and buff orpington...really not sure what all hatched,we'll see in couple weeks...the...
is it ok to leave my newly hatched chicks in the coop and run with the momma hen?momma hen seems like she potects them pretty well.when any other hen pops her head in the box with her she gives them a peck.yesterday was the first day she'd taken them out side to freerange with the other hens.was...
my wifes all excited , she went down to feed the critters and her chicks are finally hatchin today...you should see her, like a little kid in the candy store....cant wait to get pics and see how many out of the 14eggs do hatch
i did manage to get a hen to go broody ....leaving 15 eggs in that nest when the was all sharing worked....i have one hen that took over the duties. she even growls at ya when you put your hand down to her .but she will still let you pet her..thank goodness someone here told me to mark the...
most my hens are a year old or older..how do i get one to go broody so i get new chicks thisyear? my wifes started just leaving 12 eggs in one box they seem to be sharing sitting on over the last few days.will one of them kinda take control and set on the all the time?
i think her legs about finally healed up enough to put her back in the coop with all the others finally.....one question tho ...with her being in the house this long whats the chances shes gonna catch a cold when i put her back out in the cold coop with the rest chickens?
i forgot to say in this post that when i took a head count that night i was missing 2 chickens the one i found dead and i found another behind the polebuilding wounded .......have had her in the house since
it's been 9 days now and i still have the wounded chicken in my livingroom.....shes still favoring her right leg ....i think the middle toe is broken ....if thats what you would call it....she only layed one since then also...but she seems to be in full health other than favoring the right foot
shes still improving .......the leg still worries me tho ...she still cant put any weight on it ,but shes eating and trying to.looks like the wounds are gonna heal up nicely. the wife cleaning them twice a day morning and night
i'm really surprised she layed an egg in the dog crate in the livingroom .....i guess shes not that stressed from the attack..now if i can just keep the infection out of the wounds and her right leg heals up i think she'll be fine..shes still not putting any weight on the right foot wifes...
shes eating and drinking today....and pretty alert to things around her.i fixed scrambled eggs for breakfast today and she had one..i think as long as there is nothing internal hurt and i keep the wounds from getting infected she's gonna be alright...shes still not standing up yet ...i think...
this maybe a stupid question but how do chickens handle it if i have a wounded chicken out of the flock for while til she back in health?neighbors dog killed one today and wounded another pretty good ....i hope she makes it .....shes one of my only 2 whiterocks
