Which breeds have the softest feathers?

I've noticed that our Barred Rock has the softest feathers out of our three girls... I don't know if it's just her, or if it's a breed thing. What do those of you with experience handling multiple breeds think?

    Crafts for Halloween!

I started looking through nccatnip's thread on Christmas crafts and thought, wow, I'm still thinking about Halloween! I usually make Mexican sugar skulls around the beginning of the month for decorations throughout October. For Halloween, I make a treat bag for my niece, nephews, and little...

Free Black Australorp roosters - South Carolina - TAKEN

We have 2 Black Australorp roosters that need a home. They are about 7 weeks old. They will tolerate having their chests rubbed if there's something in it for them (getting out of the pen or treats), but it takes a lot more patience & calmness than it does with our Barred Rock and RIR roos...

Free Rhode Island Red RIR roosters - South Carolina - TAKEN

We have 2 Rhode Island Red roosters that need a home. They are about 7 weeks old. They will tolerate having their chests rubbed if there's something in it for them (getting out of the pen or treats), but I wouldn't call them lap chickens. We'd love for someone to take them as keepers, so...

WTB: Ameraucana/Easter Egger pullets in SC

I'm looking for three pullets to keep as backyard layers and pets. In a perfect world, I'd like them to have lighter-colored feathers overall with darker colored splashes and fuzzy little beards... But really, potential for speckled blue or green eggs wins out.

WANTED: Bantam Ameraucana/EE pullets in NC/SC

I'm looking for 4 bantam pullets to raise as backyard layers. I love the way bearded Ameraucanas look and the range of egg colors that EEs offer... so if you have some extra pullets that fit that description, you need to PM me. Seriously. Ideally, I'd like to find them by July, and I can...

    Metal Sheds?

I found some metal sheds for sale and wondered if they would make a good chicken coop? I imagine it would be tough to cut the metal and it may get too hot in the summer. Does anyone know?

Flock density for a run that will not overload soil?

How many square feet do y'all recommend per bird in a permanent run area? We're thinking 5 sq. ft. per bird in a dirt floor coop (with heavy-duty hardware cloth buried 2 ft. deep around the perimeter), but we're not sure how much space to leave in the run to keep the chickens from totally...

    Photos of eggs by breed?

Is there a source anywhere that has eggs from all different breeds (including standard & bantam sizes of breeds) of chicken so that you can see the color & size variations? Something fairly standard so that you can compare them more easily would be wonderful!
