I started my chores this morning by stepping through the floor of my coop. The coop is 8 years old, and years of rain, snow, and dirt running down the hillside has caused the floor to rot. We live on the side on the mountain, so everything runs down hill. I'm trying to decide what I want to do...
I have a purebred Great Pyrenees whose parents protected goats and a 1/2 pyr, 1/2 Bernese Mountain dog who was raised with goats. I got both dogs to guard my goats. I've bred the 2 because LGD pups are hard to find in my area, and I've had a lot of interest from other livestock owners. The...
My Nigerian Dwarf doe kidded October 2. I have been trying to milk her once a day because she only had 1 kid. The last few days, I've been getting about and ounce out of her at a milking. It also seems like she is trying to keep her buckling off of her. I have tried to put him on her, he's...
I have 4, 4 week old ducklings inside right now under a heat lamp. They are starting to feather in nicely. Right now the daytime temps are in the 60s and 70s and the nighttime temps are in the 40s. Can I move them out to the coop without a heat lamp? My coop is insulated and I have my older...
I'm surrently brooding 2 Magpie and @ Khaki Campbell ducklings. They're 2 weeks old. I have pine shaving in their brooder, but it's turning into a a nasty mess. What else can I put in their brooder for bedding?
Thanks for the help!!

Hi,
I'm looking for 2 Cochin pullets. I'm live in the foothills outside of Denver, but I am willing to travel to pick them up. Please PM me if you have any available!
Thanks, Sonja
I've recently found an organic, corn free, soy free layer feed. The only problem is it's only 15% protein. How can I add more protein to the feed? I'd like to go corn free, but 15% seems way too low.
Thanks, Sonja
We are a new brewery that will be generating 1000's of lbs of "spent grain" each week. Spent grain is our term for ground barley that has been used in brewing and much of the starch content has been converted away. The resulting wet grain is excellent livestock feed that contains about 30%...
I saw the other thread on meat bird breeds, but I'm wondering which birds do best on forage. I'm looking for a fast growing, possibly heritage breed. I've been researching them, but could use some first hand experience advice. I've raised cornish rocks and then done very well. I did black...
I have 23 black broilers that still seem tiny to me. They were hatched 8/30/12. I have an 11/10 processing date, so I'm wondering what I should be feeding them to fatten them up? I've been free feeding them meat bird crumbles with some occasional cracked corn right now. Thanks for the advice!
Help! A friend and I ordered chicks from McMurray. We ordered CRX and leghorns. Unfortunately, we can't tell who is who. Any suggestions? My guess is that the CRX would have thicker legs than the leghorns. Thanks for looking!
The pen I have my turkeys in sits on a small hill. We live in the mountains, so nothing is flat. I've tried feeders on the ground, hanging feeders, raised chick feeders and the turkeys seem to dump most of their feed. What else can I try for a feeder?
Thanks!!
I have a week old turkey who can no longer walk. It can get around using its wings and is very alert. I'd just like to put the poor little guy of of his misery. What is the best way to cull him?
Thanks, Sonja
I have a flock of 10, 2.5-3 year old layers. I was thinking of selling off some of the flock to get new layers in. How much should I price these gals or are they worth nothing based on their age?
Thanks, Sonja
I have a duck who thinks he's a chicken. He was raised by chickens and even with water outside he has no clue how to take a bath. I noticed today that he has a lot of gunk around his eyes. How can I give him a bath to clean up around his eyes? Thx for your help!!
I've been raising bourbon reds for the 1st time this year. I've been feeding them Manna Pro Gamebird Show bird feed. I'm wondering if I'm feeding them the right stuff for the last few weeks, or should they be eating something else to help fatten them up?
Thanks,
Sonja
My girls have mites, and I need to do a major clean out. I called the local feed store and the only product they have from mites is Permectrin. I haven't used this before and was wondering if I would need to toss eggs if I powdered them with it?
Thanks,
Sonja
I have 10, 6 week old poults. I've been feeding them manna pro game bird feed, but the feed store I use doesn't carry it in a 50lb. bags of crumbles. They do carry the pelleted feed. Do you think the poults can handle pellets at 6 weeks?
Thanks,
Sonja
I'm wondering if chickens can have bread yeast? I bake bread, and I have some yeast that doesn't work anymore. I figured if it's OK, I'd feed it to the chooks!
Thanks,
Sonja
