I'm seriously considering getting into Rosecombs. I found a few listings on ebay for hatching eggs, and I love these Blue brassy blacks!
From what I've already read on the Rosecomb thread, and the Rosecomb standard, they seem very nice. But I would love to know what serious breeders think...
I have this one pullet out of a recent hatch who really stands out to me. From my inexperienced eye (trying to get better at recognizing good type when I see it) she looks pretty good. Large fanned tail, small comb, and a nice head. But, I would love to hear what experts think of her.
Oh...
So, a few of you may remember me posting a long while back about my dad's job situation. For those of you who don't remember, I'll give a "brief" summary.
My dad is a high school P.E. teacher. A student (6 foot something--I don't remember how much he weighed) started harassing another student...
I went out to my juvenile coop and found one of my young OEGB cockerels not being able to walk correctly, with one leg sticking out in front to the side. He was perfectly fine yesterday, flying up on my arm as he normally does to get treats.
I am going to treat him as if this is splay leg, so...
About 4 years ago (when I was relatively new to chickens) I had a white Silkie cockerel and a bunch of laying hens. I took one of my black Sexlink eggs and put it in the incubator. It hatched, and I got this,
She's very eye-catching, and lays HUGE light brown eggs everyday. So now I'm...
I'm always interested in buying bantam hens, so when I saw this I got interested. But what breed is this?

I am excited to say that I have built breeder coops and will be looking into purchasing some breeds to breed! I have never actually had breeding pens; just a rooster or two. Very, very excited.
Now I have a few questions. I want to purchase a trio or quad of OEGB's at the show coming up in...
I have been bottlefeeding one of our Dorper lambs, because her mother rejected her. She is 3 weeks old today, and we've had her since day 1, so obviously we have all gotten very attached to her.
I try every day to take her out to her relatives (she thinks she's a person), as it helps to get...
Our friend is a good breeder of American bull dogs. One of his old females came in contact with one of his males, and a litter of puppies occured. He had wanted to not breed her, because of her age, but accidents do happen.
The female had 7 healthy puppies, at the time of birth. But, now he...
Yep, another Silkie gender issue.
I rescued two hens, one footless and one with two feet. They were both sold to me as hens and their owner was confident that they were. I was too, until a few days ago.
The two birds were pretty roughed up, missing feathers and had pretty bad cases of...
I recently rescued a footless Silkie "hen", and 'her' sister. The poor birds weren't kept very well, but they didn't appear to be ill, just a little roughed up. The footless bird also had a mild case of lice, which I treated immediately.
Since I got them, I've kept them in quarantine, and let...
After brain surgery to remove a tumor, my uncle David, recently married, is showing no brain activity. He is being taken off life-support tonight.
If possible, please say a prayer (or two), for his salvation. We don't know if he has come to the Lord or not.
Thanks BYC family.
I have a 4 year old Orpington hen that I purchased those 4 years ago at our local feestore. Nothing seemed wrong until last year, and now, this year her issues are much, much worse. She stares blankly at you, and when she moves away she stumbles and falls almost every 5 seconds. She is molting...
I have some questions.
I've never had quail. In fact I've actually never seen one in person. But I've seen pictures of how people raise them, and it kind of strikes me as odd. All of the photos I've seen have been setups like this,
So my questions are:
Why are quail raised in wire...
I have a Wellie hen who is just...... odd.
That's her, and just in case she doesn't look odd to you, here is her sister:
That still probably doesn't make you think odd. I didn't think so either, until I picked her up. Her keel bone is VERY crooked. It bulges outward at the top, then...
I was on BYC this morning. Didn't notice anything wrong. Now, as I'm on, I've noticed that words such as *SOME--BODY have been changed to SOMEPONY. ????? Also, words such as *PULLET and *G.IRL, have been changed to FILLY, and *H.AND or *F.OOT has been changed to HOOF or HOOVES.
I KNOW this...
An young angry stallion stumbles onto a large over-crop in a rock. Hatred burned within his eyes, and vapors blew from his inflamed nostrils on the cold frosty night. "I will beat you father. One day. And soon, your time to fall will come, and I will be the victor." he nickered. He looked...

I prefer to use natural and organic feed for my birds, so I started my up-growing layer flock non-GMO/corn/soy with the Scratch and Peck organic starter. Since then, I've noticed they have been pooping soft and really smelly droppings. Why?
