Hi all... I know I'm going to get some responses about being an irresponsible chicken owner but I'm at my wits end and I just really really need some advice.
Last year I bought 3 (4 week old) chicks from a local hatchery. The guy at the hatchery didn't know if they were hens or roos. I ended...
Okay, so we thought my hen was just sitting on some eggs, and maybe that was why she wasn't leaving her house. Today we went into the coop to feed and water, and she wasn't sitting on anything! What could make a hen just stop laying and never leave her house? She isn't hurt, she let us pet her...
Not sure if this is the right thread or not..but here goes...
So, I have three 8 week old frizzle bantams. I'm 99% sure one is a roo, the other 2 are most likely hens. Here's my question...when they start laying eggs, and there is a roo present. How do I know if I can eat the eggs or not? I...

Okay, so I work with a guy who's got a farm. He says that you have to debeak your chickens or else they'll peck at their own (and eachothers) eggs and break em. I haven't heard of this. Is it true? I don't want to debeak them..it doesn't seem right. Any thoughts?
I keep reading things about DE in these posts. What is it? I have 3 month old chickies and I haven't done anything preventative for diseases. What should I be doing?
okay everyone! I finally got some good close ups of the chickies...still don't know what sex they are.....but hopefully soon! Anyone have any thoughts? And are they "brown"? "buff"?

Hey everyone,
I'm wondering if there's a difference between "buff" and "brown" as far as color goes? I got three brown frizzle bantams a few weeks ago, but I'm having a hard time finding info on "brown frizzles"...I AM however finding a lot on "buff frizzles"...is it the same thing?
Okay so I have 3 little chickies all 3 weeks old right now. I went to the store the other day to pick up some pine shavings and I figured while I was there I may as well price out some feed. I'm totally confused now.
...for example..Chick starter 18% layer? what the heck does this all mean? The...
I forgot I had another question...my chickies are still in the pen awaiting their coop (they're 3 weeks old). is it a good idea to put a little water in the bathtub and let them splash around a little? (i know, clean out the bathtub thoroughly so no soapy residue is in there). or do chickens not...
Okay expert chickeners... this rookie needs some help! Here are some things I've read about and heard since beginning my chicken journey, I keep hearing or reading both sides and I don't know which is right!! here we go and thanks for all your posts!!
A: You shouldn't handle baby chicks (by...
Hi everyone! I just have a few questions about my little chickies..the hatchery guy says they are "brown frizzle cochin bantams". I have three of them, they are a little over 2 weeks old. When is a good time to take them out of the pen and put them into their coop?
Hey hey everyone! I just got myself three little chickies. The hatchery guy said they are "brown frizzle cochin bantams" but when I look that up online I don't get a whole lot on the entire names. Anyone know anything about these little critters? I have about one month to construct a coop, I...
