Looking for a guess on breed

Pic 2 by Nemo posted Oct 29, 2018 at 9:54 PMPic 1 by Nemo posted Oct 29, 2018 at 9:54 PM I'm looking at a Craiglist posting about some chickens hatched last spring. The guy says he ordered Sunnyside Hatchery Rangers, but isn't sure that's what they are. The birds are an-hour-and-a-half away...

    What am I?

My name is Spotty. I was the bonus bird from McMurray this year. I am almost five weeks old. I know I am not a Cork, like all my brothers, because they tower over me. What am I? Thanks.

    Red Stars

Just wanted to post some pictures of my Red Stars... They will be twenty weeks old on Monday. I got a dozen from MyPetChicken last September. I didn't expect them to start laying until spring... Boy, was I wrong. They surprised me in their fifteenth week. That's why I have the...

    Breakfast of Champions

Just wanted to share a picture of my breakfast to see how many people I could get salivating... Two-and-a-half eggs, still warm from the coop, cooked over medium. Amish, corn-fed, pork sausage. My world famous strawberry jam on toast. Just have to grab my chocolate milk, juice, and cup of...

    Any pattypan recipes?

We got about a dozen pattypan squashes. They are on the small-ish side... The average is prob'ly a little over three inches across. Anybody have any good recipes of what we can stuff them with?

    Yeah!!! New Chicks!!!

Well, I bought a dozen eggs off eBay, which were s'posed to hatch on the 11th. A few days after, with nothing happening, I opened them to find that they hadn't developed at all. So, to console myself, and to continue the plan of replacing my layers a part at a time, I ordered twelve Red Stars...

    Chicken Racing

I found a picture of the newest in chicken racing suits... They're much like the full-body suits swimmers are using nowadays. EDIT -- Fixed image.

    Looking for confirmation on genders...

I was able to hatch two Buff Orpington eggs this spring. The first was Beatrix, on the right, a day early. The second was Felicity, on the left, a day later. They are both seven weeks old. It looks like I'll have to rename Felicity Felix, as it's looking like a he to me.

    UPDATE: SECOND HATCHED!

Yeah! One of my eggs hatched! My wife came home from work and found it. She was feeding the piggy birds which arrived Monday, and went over to the incubator and heard the peeping. I hadn't told her not to open the 'bator, so she did to take a look. Then took the picture. It's a day...

    Good News and Bad News

I'm ten days into my first try at incubating. We have fifteen eleven-month-old Buff Orpington hens, and one rooster. When a buddy at work heard we had chooks, he said he had an incubator I could borrow. I brought it home last month, and set it up. It's an old Brower 845. It has quite a...

Leg Bands, Plastic Split Ring -- For Trade or Sale

I inherited a bunch of plastic leg bands, and have way more than I need. They are size 10, and fit my Buff Orpington hens very well. I have 60 red and 40 blue. I'd really like to trade some for different colors. I'd be willing to sell some, too. Two dollars for ten, and I'll cover postage...

    Vaccinate home-hatched chicks?

Alright, all you experienced incubaters... Do you vaccinate your home-hatched chicks? We bought Buff Orps last year from McMurray, and had them vaccinated for cocci and Marek's. This year, I'm going to try hatching some of our eggs, and am wondering what to do. [EDIT] I forgot to add, we...

    Funny Comic

I received this comic on in e-mail this morning. I almost spit chocolate milk onto the screen. This could actually happen at our place... The egg money goes into a jar to buy supplies for the chooks. I keep saying, "It's not our money, it's the chickens' money." That way, we don't have to...

    Roo preparing nest?

We have fifteen Buff Orps pullets and one Sicilian Buttercup cockerel. They'll be twenty-one weeks old Saturday. My finacee closed up the coop last night. She said our roo was in one of the nest boxes playing with the straw and shavings like he was arranging it. Does he know something we...

Our Dog-Kennel Coop (Lots of Pix)

When I first introduced myself last month, I wrote about the dog-kennel we turned into two coops. Somebody asked for pictures. We finally got a real (in other words: not my cellphone) camera this weekend, so I took a handful of pictures... The front of the kennel from our yard... There is a...

    Am I a roo?

Well, we've had quite the time trying to figure out what our little Oddball is. I have it narrowed down to a Sicilian Buttercup, but now "she" is starting to feather out like a he. Here's a couple pics at thirteen weeks old... So, is it a rooster? Thanks,

    Greetings from N'rn Wisconsin

Hello. I've been lurking for a couple weeks, and finally decided it was time to introduce myself. My name is Neil, and I live in northern Wisconsin. My fiancee and I decided we would get chickens this spring... As if planning a wedding isn't enough to do. On May 5th, the Post Master called...
