Hi ~ I bought 2 chicks at a feed store and one I was told is a Barred Rock - and it's a roo, I cant keep - picture below to show how red his comb is. I think they are about 8-10 weeks.
The other I was told is a golden comet - and i really doubt it. I think she is a Leghorn - looks just like...
Hi ~
How long is it typical to keep new chickens separate from current ones?
I have four 8 week old chicks (from a hatchery)
I got sucked in and bought two additional chicks.
Its been 2 weeks and I still have them separate due to size - the older ones are outside, then little ones are...
I am going away for 2 nights and wondering if I should have someone check on the chickens or if they might be ok on thier own.
I have 4 - 8 week old chicks, and 2 - 4 week old chicks.
The older ones are in the coop, I have hanging feeder and waterer (big enough for an army) and the little...
We bought the plans online - and hubby amended the plans to suit our needs. We used some new, some recycled materials.
We love it! the girls love it too!

Hi ~
I was told this little peeper was a Comet, but she doesnt look like it to me. Can anyone guess what else she might be? (I hope its a she!)
4 weeks old - her tail feathers are much bigger than her roo-mate, and she is feathering much faster. She looks a bit like my Leghorns, but I am...
Hi ~
Second visit today - I have 2 Leghorns (first flock) and I am pretty sure they are pullets, this one is bigger than my other one, and the comb is bigger. She is 6 weeks old, and there is a slight hint of pink at the base of her comb - the comb on her is bigger than the other pullet...

He/she is 3 weeks old - and full of personality, chest thumps my girls 2X his age!!! Really aggressive, peeps loud and A LOT, pecks the heck out of you when you hold it.
Thanks!

I am raising my first flock I have 6 - 2 Leghorns (6 weeks), 2 Buffs (6 weeks), 1 Plymouth Rock (3 weeks) , and 1 Mystery (3 weeks Comet?)
One of the Leghorns started to strongly exhale out her nose - no gunk, no sneezing, everything seems normal, and it...
I am hesitant to say "runny nose" - I have four 6 week old chicks (2 leghorns 2 buff Orps) I had them in my kitchen in a brooder and have been putting them outside in the brooder during the day.
I moved them to basement today (not musty, temp appox 65) and one of them has twice exhaled through...
One more question - my 4 week old chicks LOVE superworms - I just read I should be-head them before feeding as they can damage the chicks if they swallow them alive. I'm not sure I have the stomach for that. Could I freeze them instead, then feed to the chicks?
THANKS!
I am a new flock owner and starting out - I have 4 chicks, 2 leghorns and 2 buffs. They are 4 weeks, {image below} and they seem healthy and happy, but they sometimes look like they are yawing, or gagging.
I feed them chick starter, some pea shoots, and super worms as treats that I always...
