I have a chicken that just started laying two weeks ago. Her egg shells are hard as rocks and the membrane under the shell is super tough too. The chickens pen is on top of gravel... Is this why?
New to this.... I have 3 chickens, 2 hens, 1 roo. One hen just started laying this week. How can I tell if they are fertilized or not? I have heard that these eggs are not fit to eat?
Thanks
I have some broken chickens. 2 hens that havn't laid the 1st egg and a Rooster that don't crow. They are all at least 24 weeks old... What do you think? I know some hens won't lay until the next spring, but will they start this late?
seen a bunch of people on here say their chickens like Cherios, so today I dug in the cabinet and found some Apple Jacks ( I actually work at Kelloggs )
They didn't care for it at all. But I went back inside and returned w/ the butt-end of a loaf of wheat bread and they went crazy like usual...
Here are some pics of my Home Made Coop. I seen a picture of a coop like this one online for over $400. It took me maybe 6-7 hours total to build and cost around $100. I just added the 'dog kennel run' yesterday. We let our dogs roam free so it was just sitting there, and I felt like our...
Today I added a 6'x10' dog kennel to one end of my 'a' frame coop for the chickens to have a little more room to run. This is the first time they have been out since I got them about 3 weeks ago. I'm not sure how old they are, but I'm guessing 15-17 weeks. I have posted pix of them on here...
One of my hens sounds like she is coughing. She also has some snot bubbles around her nostrils.
She is acting fine tho, eating drinking, etc.
Anything I can do, or should be concerned with?
I've had my new chickens for over a week now and still no eggs! These chickens are putting me in the hole!
J/k. But seriously, how long until they sttle down into their new home? They are not laying hens, but 2 are very close in age to start any day now.
Also, when they do lay eggs, should...
I read that male cuckoo marans are usually lighter in color... are the hens sometimes lighter too?? I just got some chickens and one is a marans, and is lighter, but looks more henish to me, and acts like a hen...?
I just got 4 chickes, I think 1 ended up being a roo. I do not want to breed them. How many hens do you need for 1 roo? Or would it be easier to just get rid of him since I only want eggs?
Just got these yesterday, not sure of some of them..
he called this one a 'red star'? looks like RIR/White leghorn to me..
Barred rock/dominiquer?
Buff Orpington..pretty sure on this one
White legs, but really light on color... cockuo marans?
I just bought 4 chickens from this guy yesterday. He has many different breeds, heavy and bantam, and all of them look really healthy. He has pullets to laying hens + roosters. He also has quail and other fowl too. Just wanted to throw his number out there in case anyone was interested. I...
I live bout 20 mins North of Memphis. I have 4 pullets/cockrels. Not sure yet. Do not want roos, will trade or sale, also interested in buying. I have pics.
Had a leftover blueberry pancake today and fed it to my chickens. They acted like they hadn't ever eaten before! They loved it. So I guess from now on I'll have to make an extra pancake.
I had a question about my sick chicken earlier in the week & w/ some of ya'lls help concluded that it was Avian Pox.
I just wanted to say the chicken seems to be getting better! But know after posting pics of it, I'm not sure of the breed or gender! I thought it was a BR pullet, but some say...
Bought these a couple weeks ago, supposed to be hens about 15 wks old. I'm not really sure, especially about 1 of them.
this is my sick Barred Rock
This is my other BR
This is one of my EEers
This is the other EEer ( i think is male)
I just bought 4 Pullets 2 weeks ago that are approx 14 weeks old. I was told that they were probally hens, but I am having doubts about one of them.
What are the best ways to determine the sex of chickens this age? If I post pics can anyone here tell me what sex they are by seeing them?
Thanks!
Someone told me that if a chicken lays brown eggs, it is not a real EEer. Is this true? I have (or think ) I have 2 young pullets that have not laid yet.
I just purchased 4 pullets from a trade day event in Ms. I live in TN and they do not allow the sale of livestock at events like this, and I could not find anywhere else to buy some pullets. But anyhow, my chickens are sick, and I do not know if they are going to make it. I have heard this is...
