One of my hens disappeared and when she returned had seven chicks with her! I still haven't found her nest!
One of the chicks is much smaller than the other, lays around and doesn't move much, only in small spurts. It's belly button looks crusted and it jerks it's head sporadically...
My hen hatched two eggs (one on the 2nd and the 3rd) and then abandoned the other two yesterday. I just candled them on wednesday and they appeared to be viable, what should I do?
On wednesday we got rid of one of our roos, would my hens still be laying eggs that might have been fertilized by him? I am wondering how long it takes for them to work it out of their system!
Thanks in advance
Tell me I didn't hatch all BR cockerels? LOL!
here's the closeup ther's one not present but it looks like a definite cockerel to me, looks like I will have one pullet?
The rooster that I brought inside (the one caught in the fly trap) has a swollen toe on his left foot. It's a nice big knot and the whole foot is much hotter than the other so I suspect it's running a little fever. Do I just treat this the same way I would a sprain of my own?
Please let me know...
My husband put up fly tape in the coop today and our Ameraucana Rooster got stuck in it. I got the fly tape off but now I have a very sticky rooster. I tried washing him and now I have a wet and sticky rooster. What do I do?
Thanks in advance!
Warmly, Lara
Still trying to decide whether or not to cull this chick. I am not sure if this is a deformity or an injury. It looked like this when I first saw it when it was about 24 hours old.
One of the chicks was born with a lame leg and when I inspected it today it looks like it has been pecked at by the other chicks. The leg doesn't bend. I don't think that the chick could ever walk.
If you have ever had to cull a chick HOW did you do it? I
'd like to hear some different options...

Lucy here had a feather shaft break while molting and by the next day the other chickens had practically tried to eat her! What to do? I'm cleaning her up, keeping it irrigated and using aloe vera on the wound. A relative of mine is sending me some sulfa ointment to use, any other advice?
Here...
I haven't actually left for more than 6 hours since I got my chickens last August. How will they be for two evenings on their own, will I need to have someone check on them, or will they be fine?
Thanks in advance! Lara
I feel so stupid about this! We have a loft in our coop (it's a converted shed) and there are still some things up there from before I owned this place; cushions from outside furniture, a couple old paint cans, I wasn't concerned that they could knock anything over, but apparently there was a...
I went out to my coop in the evening a few days ago and picked up the feeder and mice ran out in all directions, tiny gray mice but at least 20 of them!!!
What do I do, why aren't the chickens trying to eat them? I have seen the chickens with one or two here and there but I never would have...
Recently one of my hens (pullet) laid and egg and my rooster jumped right up on a hay bale next to her and started proclaiming right along with her...and I don't mean crowing, he was clucking and going on as if he had laid the egg!
What is this all about, any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
I was given two six month old beautiful white rocks as a gift. They haven't laid any eggs in the three days I have had them, should I expect them to lay any eggs at all before spring?
Thanks in advance! Lara
