So.. in an effort to have "CLEAN" ducks (insert insane laughter here) I was considering switching to an auto fill bucket.
Originally I was going to plumb the bottom of their concrete mixing pan and make a platform for it, but the splash zone is a good 3' around it. LOL
This is what I was...
So, We had a SQ penciled duck - unfortunately she passed away recently and we'd really like to get another.
so- show me your ducks, and tell me if you got them from a breeder, a hatchery or if you bred them!
Thanks!
I've got plenty of experience with Welsh Harlequins and ebony runners, but none with gray/mallard runners. Does anyone have the SOP for the United States they could share some information?
I ended up with 2 trout runners out of an ebony hen and a chocolate drake but I'm not sure she's show...
A proven pair of Welsh Harlequins. Both parents came from show stock.
Drake is silver, Hen is gold phase, and set her own eggs. This pair will produce 50% gold females and 100% silver males.
Very friendly, handled by children daily. Hen is 1 year old Drake is 18 months.
EDITING DUCKLINGS...
I bought a treadle feeder from "The Carpenter Shop" and have had problems with it from the start. I have emailed them and received no response.
Any suggestions on ways to prevent the food from getting wet or how to make it easier for the hens to get the food? I didn't realize the problem was...
Yikes, I have highly underestimated the amount of noise my female ducks would make as they matured. Now I'm trying to keep them quiet so I don't make my neighbors angry. I need to manage 6 more weeks before they will be leaving my yard. Any ideas on how to entertain them? As it is I have the...
My young pullet RIR is a blonde girl - she really is. She has no problem going to the nest box and laying her egg each day. She leaves it there as she is supposed to and does not show any broody tendencies yet as far as the next box is concerned.
However! I had taken the eggs out of the box...
I'm building it this weekend but I'm really torn as to what type of bottom to use. I'd like to ask here what you have tried and what works best for you. I've looked at about 100 threads and seen loads of pictures. But I'm asking what is working for you. Have you actually tried any of the other...
A few weeks back I posted about my pullets sudden weight loss. I was worried about the possibility of worms and other such problems. I did worm them but as it turns out I found my culprit...
They are EATING the ground cover in their run. YUP. You read that right. About a month ago I started...
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to put inside of a run that they won't demolish? I need a decent sized shrub (2 or 3 really) to place inside the girls run and I'm at a loss as to what I should be considering and what should definitely be off the list.
Any ideas?
I need:

I have 3 pullets they are aprox. 28 weeks. I got them about 5-6 weeks ago. They were thin when I got them and since then I moved them into a much larger enclosure (from 7'x36" to 35' pen) less than a month ago they are now thin as rails. I know part of it could be that they now are getting...
And with what I've got around the house. I can't get to a feed store until the weekend due to time constraints. What can I feed them that will help meanwhile? I'm getting really concerned!
They were thin when I got them but they are still losing weight and not gaining. This weekend I intended...
I understand that this is a 'smaller pellet' but, can someone, ANYONE supply me with a picture for size reference?
I know it's also a plant based diet and I'm OK with that. I feed scraps and my flock free ranges in my garden for all the slugs and snails and bugs they can find... and they DO...
I changed the roof, too but I don't think they notice that... It went from tin to wood but the pitch is the same it just has an over hang on it now and won't make such a racket for them when it rains.
They acted like I moved them to Alaska! Not one of them went into the coop that night. Now...
Laying with the other hens!
WHOOT!!!
Not every single day yet, but so far every other day. I'll take what I can get and pray I didn't jinx myself announcing it here.
She went from laying rubber eggs, and laying multiple times a day right into a moult within 2 weeks of her first egg. While...
I have one hen laying daily. One laying almost every other day, and one that I suspect lays 2 eggs nearly every day. The one I have a problem with would be the one that lays 2 eggs. Of course. The problem wouldn't be when she lays 2 eggs. Obviously when she lays 2 eggs they wouldn't necessarily...
Uh- but I don't know what all I'm supposed to say. :-)
I've got 3 pullets. RIR, BR and a light brahma. They have issues. LOL. One lays daily, one lays 2 eggs daily, and obviously that is a hot mess because the eggs don't have time to harden and one just gave her first egg this weekend.
I'm...
