Hi everyone!
I have two shamo hens in my flock. I thought they had stopped laying because I wasn’t finding any of their eggs in the coop. Today, I was walking around straightening their electric fence, and I bumped into a nest they had made in the woods! It had 12 eggs in it!
My question is...
I have a 3 month old (hatched on April 23rd, 2014) silkie who is not sexed yet. It needs a new home either as a single pet or as a part of an ALL SILKIE flock. The reason? This chick is extremely docile and too nice to be with other chickens. It was attacked and scalped by other chicks her same...
I have NO IDEA of what happened here. 12 week old silkie. I keep her in a pen with 3 more babies her age: 2 sebright and 1 red cochin.
I just went to their pen and found the silkie horribly injured. Here are the pics:
The pics are bad but the bare skull is showing, she bled all the way down...
I have 2 sebrights, 4 weeks and 3 days old. One gold one silver. I've never had sebrights before, but I'm guessing gold is a male and silver is a female. What do you guys think???
Here's Mr. Fring (roo suspect)
Here's Lydia (I'm thinking pullet, much smaller comb and more uniform...
We had some bad storms today here, so I kept the babies in today. This morning they all seemed fine. After the bad weather passed, it started to get warm and sunny, so I went to take the chicks to their outdoors pen. I found one of them like this:
Sitting without moving much, one of the...
Today I had to work in a different location... And the place I had to go to was right next to TSC.
You know what happened.
Here's my six assorted bantams. From left to right, at the top, I have: silver sebright, silkie, MISTERY#1 silver sebright #2. On the bottom, we have MISTERY#2...
Hi everyone, hope I can get some help... I've been having problems with mites for a while. Today was the first sunny day after many days of rain/cold and I decided to deep clean my coop. I took ALL bedding out, dusted the chickens with Sevin5, washed all walls floors and ceiling with Dawn...
I need your expert help!
I have 7 chicks, mixed breeds, different ages. I've been putting them outside in their own run inside the main chicken area, so the older chooks could get used to them. Today, I let the two older ones (australorp and SL wyandotte) join the big girls. They are both 12...
...Did I get a good pair? I mean, I know (or at least I read on here) that "good" specimens of brabanters are hard to come by. Maybe you can give me an idea. Not that I really care, I love these two and I want to keep em!
The only thing that I cannot have is a roo... Which I would have to take...
One of my chickens woke up today very droopy and weak. She seemed fine yesterday. She won't come out of the coop. Watery stools, closed eyes, dirty around vent. I cleaned her up with a wet soapy rag and saw red mites!! How can I help her?? I am very concerned. I dusted her with Sevin, is there...
Or is it too early to tell?
I am starting to think it's a cockerel... Uneven feathering, bald spot on its back, long neck, incipient comb, larger than the other chick its age (although the other chick is a silver laced wyandotte), noisy and freaks out if I try to handle it...
What do ya'll...
Here they are :)
1 easter egger
1 australorp
1 silver laced wyandotte
1 white crested blue Polish - Bowie (only one with a name so far)
1 light brahma
I never raised chicks, only pullets/point of lay... I'm so excited!!
I was offered a one week old silver laced Polish chick. I am in need of a white egg layer and I love the crazy look of this breed. However, I've never raised chicks.. I only have pullets ranging from 4 to 6 months in age.
I do have a lamp, a cardboard box and feed.... Do I really need to get...
Woke up this morning at 6 sharp hearing animal SCREAMS coming from the coop... Ran out to the yard without even getting dressed, and found what I thought was an opossum, running away and climbing on a tree. Looks like he got a nice shock from my electric fence The girls were all locked in the...
Hi, folks!!
I know there are other threads on Wazine here, but I guess since then Wazine has changed its label. For what I understood reading here, the label used to say "not for birds intended for human consumption", but it was agreed that by consumption, they meant immediate consumption. 2...
Hi everybody!
About a week ago, my buff orpington pullet (about 4/4.5 months) had diarrhea, was lethargic and not eating. I put her on CORID and SafeGuard and she got better in about 3 days. I kept giving her (and the rest of the flock) CORID for 5 days. Then I started them on...
Hello everybody!
I've been supplementing my girls' diet with sunflower seeds (just a couple handfuls a day) and they love it!
I'm trying to feed them some foods rich in omega3s (so that goes in their eggs)... Today they had a piece of leftover baked sockeye salmon and they DEVOURED it (talk...
