Found this in the coop this morning down in a pile of pooh. Didn't smell, looks and feels like boiled chicken, is hollow on the inside and full of liquid.
Our birds picked up lice at the fair last year. Apparently we didn't get rid of them all so we're retreating now. Can anyone remind me about Permethrin 10:
1. What is the egg withdrawal period?
2. When is the second dose due?
3. Since we have twice the flock size can I just make a dip and dunk...
My maran just laid her first egg and it wasn't exactly what I expected. I know their egg colors can vary, but I'm curious if there's any chance yet her eggs will get darker or if they'll stay this light.:(
These are what we hatched her from.
This is what she's laid.
We hatched since lovely marans of mixed colors and we end up with four lovely birds. There is a blue we are confident is a hen, two blue Copper roos and one little one we can't quite decide on.
I assume the two in the back are both roos, feont right a hen, and we think the front left chicken...
Found this little white oddity in my coop yesterday. We have three eggers in their third laying season, and six Araucanas in there first. I'm curious if the white egg is maybe one of the older girls loosing some color, I know that the brown egg layers can lose color as they get older but I...
I'm honestly not even sure of the best place to post this. We have this araucana guy, he was hatched by his mom and kicked out of the nest. His siblings look normal, he didn't have any feathers when I found him....he's very wirey and rough feeling and it almost looks like he has hairs sticking...
We have an Orpingtin hen, I believe she was hatched in february, who has suddenly decided to turn broody. Last night when we checked on her she had four eggs, she roamed outside with the rest of the flock most of the day and I just noticed she has returned to the nest box and now has at least...
I just cleaned the coop Sunday and saw no signs of any issues with the coop, run or birds. Today when I let them out I found my Buff, three Rhode Island Reds and an Easter Egger with bare...ummm....underbutts? I know we have a pecker in the flock because two of my EE's have bare backs but...
We're pretty new at this and I've done some reading on the subject of double eggs but still have some questions. We have a RIR that lays double yolk eggs nearly every day. We call her Eggzilla. :D So, I read that they were hereditary but I thought it was still an occasional thing. Its it...
She was SUPPOSED to be a barred rock, she was a solid chick with no dot on her head. Her feathers have a gorgeous green sheen in the sun. I thought maybe she was a cochin when the leg feathers started coming in but now she doesn't look like a cochin either. Maran? Langshan? Some unholy farm...
My girls are 20 weeks old as of today. This morning I went out to find their first egg....that they'd already eaten. Cause for concern? Is this normal? Suggestions?
So, I was checking on my girls this morning and as I walked away I heard a cock-a-doodle-doo that stopped me cold in my tracks. I turned around and to my horror I notice it's my favorite "hen" crowing at me. We have 11 girls in the coop all together, they're about 19 weeks right now. I'm not...
This January we ordered our first flock of layers. Our girls came packed with 6 barred rock roos. We can't keep roo's in the city, but waste not want not since barred rocks are DPs we decided to raise them with the ladies and eat them. They are 12 weeks old and we butchered one today as a...
So, everyone here was so helpful in figuring out my last post I'm hoping for a little more of everyone's brilliant insight. We now have a 2 1/2 week old "barred rock" hen that is solid black and has feathered feet. In other words....I have no idea what the heck she is. Any ideas?
I posted this under raising chicks earlier but I then realized I may get a better response here, so sorry for reposting but....
We placed an order for 5 RIR and 5 Easter Egger pullets that we received 1-10. They came packed with (supposedly) 5 barred rock roos. What I got was 5 RIR's, 2...
We placed an order for 5 RIR's and 5 Easter Eggers that we received 1-10. They came packed with (supposedly) 5 barred rock roos. What I got was 5 RIR's, 2 chipmunks, one yellow, 1 brown and 6 seemingly identical barred rock roos with the exception of one of their head spots slightly, looking...
