We made an incubator and are taking the plunge. I set 3 thermometers in there and have had it steady at 99 deg for 2 days. the humidity is at 45% and i think we are ready to go. JUST NEED SOME LUCK!!!
We got a Roo last week and have kept him in a giant dog crate. All seemed well until today. Though my little one said different. Yesterday we let him out in the run with the others for like 5 minutes and we found out he could FLY WELL!!. After we got him back we put him back in the crate for the...
OK I will try to explain the problem the best I can. On 16 July one of our NN pullets had the skin ripped off her neck.
We set up a large dog crate in the house and I treated her. At night we would bring in one of the other NN pullets to keep her company. All went well. She is now...

OK here is where we are.
My question is. Can I put 6-8 inches of hardware cloth across the high end and leave it open without getting rain or snow in the coop? The overhang is 12" and I am going to have 8"s on the sides.. The short end faces due west and gets most of the weather so I...
OK so we started our coop and are documenting our progress. I learned a lot from others so I hope to help with any one else who comes along. Plus I don't mind trolling for encouragement (Complements) too. LOL
First pic where we wanted our coop.
Coop started.

I was wondering if any one used a high power air rifle to help as a pest/predator "deterrent"? I have a neighbor that is far enough away by law to use one of my powder rifles but they can be a PITA. So if I can do it without ruffling any feathers it would be worth the couple hundred bucks.
The GLW's, SLW's and Meaties got here on Tuesday. The BLRW's and Surprise NN's got here this morning.
I am having enough trouble controlling chicken math with out the extras!! LOL
I have chicks that shipped today. I just got the usps tracking and it said that the expected delivery is the 11th. That seems late to me. Should I be Concerned? What should I have on hand if they do come that late? Thank you for any and all suggestions or advice.
Ok I have read every post I can find and think I have 3 of the 4 SR chicks figured out but one falls into both groups. Here they are.

The first thing I did was order some on eBay Here is the link where I got mine...
I was sitting there watching chick TV. We got 6 on Sat. 2 Red Sex Link, 4 sr Speckled Sussex. (lack of self control) I was looking at their combs and tying to see if there was any difference to them. There was a slight one. 3 look like a metal blade on a jigsaw and one looks like a crosscut...
I have been ding search after search after search trying not to ask a question that has been answered but I am still a bit confused. I have seen so many different amounts going back to posts from 2010 on up. Is there a general senses as to how much per gal. Had a couple chicks show some signs of...
Do Speckled Sussex chicks come in Mostly Yellow? I thought they were all chipmunk colored. Well we got 4 Chipmunk and 2 yellow's I will post picks after we stop being mesmerized be them. (CAN'T STOP WATCHING CHICKS) in zombie voice. My little one had to have the yellow ones.
TSC had Speckled Sussex Straight run yesterday. It was sooooo hard to walk away!! But I have to many coming in April as it is. We are starting out flock with a wandotte rainbow. My Girls decided that. But if I were to get some and keep one pullet in the flock would it be left out and alone or...
Just thought it looked nice today after some fresh snow.
