I am hatching 24 pheasant eggs for a friend. Started out with 30, lost 6 to non-development. So today is day 23 which is the normal hatch day for pheasants. Yesterday morning I woke to one pip. By the end of yesterday there were 6 pips and no progress in the first pip. I went to bed. My humidity...
Hello all
I have been asked to hatch Ringneck Pheasants for someone and will be picking up the eggs Saturday. I have done two seperate chicken incubations/hatches. What do I need to know about hatching these guys? Any and all information is greatly appreciated!!
I am on day 20 for my 9 silkie eggs and I candled half this morning to check for internal pip (I'm super fast so I didn't lose heat or humidity in the bator) and there is chirping in two eggs and one is definetly hitting the shell with its beak, but hasn't pipped yet. The BYCer I get the eggs...
Good morning!!! I started out with 14 shipped silkie eggs, and have 9 that made it to lockdown. We are on day 19 today. I am streaming live on Ustream...here is the link: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/silkie-hatch-cam1
Please follow, it will let you know when we go live. Today is testing...
I am setting 16 shipped silkie eggs this evening (they arrive later this morning). Room temp is 69-70 degrees, bator temp steady at 101 degrees (still-air bator) and humidity is hovering at 34%. I'm pretty excited and will try to keep this post updated with candling pics and hatching when it comes.
You know there in only one day during the incubation period that no one will be home all day to turn the eggs? The only turn the eggs would miss for sure is the mid day turn. Not sure what to do...is it ok to miss one turn time?
Happy spring everyone! It has been about year since my last visit and I'm am preparing for our now Annual Spring Hatch! I have placed an order for silkie eggs that will hopefully be shipping Monday or Tuesday. This is our second hatch and my first time getting shipped eggs. I know the risk of...
I have a chick who is stuck in the bottom of his shell, this guy pipped yesterday morning, and I had to assist by taking the top off and wetting the inner membrane with bacitracin. He got his upper body out but the side of the egg is fused to him. He is weak and can't break himself free...I am...
My first chick to hatch last night seems to have a problem his his toes...instead of spreading out, they seemed to be staying together, making it harder for him to walk...I can't get a good enough picture to post...any idea if this will correct itself or if there is something I can do to help it?

My first egg just pipped an hour ago, so hatching could start any time. A few more eggs have internally pipped so I hope to see something from them soon as well. I have 13 in the bator all together.
I am 13 hours into day 21 and I canded real quick while adding water to the bator...I THINK i saw a few internal pips, but I'm not sure because I don't know what they are supposed to look like. I tried to get a pic real quick but it may not be that great...I can see beaks in the air cells...
I have been told mostly that which ever way you set your eggs is how you want them when they hatch, so if you start them laying down, you hatch them laying down. I've been told that if you set the eggs in egg cartons, they should also hatch in the egg cartons, which is what I am doing. I am...
I locked down last night, added two jar lids and chunks of sponge to them for humidity. I was at 30% during incubation with no water. Now I am at 57%. Should I go up more? I have small D'Uccle eggs and large Black Austrolorp eggs and I am worried about the BA's drowning if I go to high. How do...
I was just informed on my hatch thread that I have to lock down my 5 D'Uccle eggs 2 days before the rest of my regular large size eggs, which are due to go on lockdown Friday morning! I don't have a spare incubator or hatcher! I have the items needed to build a bator but don't have the time to...
I'm going to have my first hatch next weekend
I have chick starter/grower but I am curious as to what else baby chicks can eat. I will have them about 2 weeks before I start to sell them off. I would like everything they eat to be natural.
I have live meal worms left over from my daughter's...
Out of my 16 eggs that are/were due to hatch April 1st, I had two that were infertile, and 1 that was early death. I did not see a blood ring inside the egg, but saw that nothing was really growing, so I opened the egg and found this:
I'm thinking the embryo died around day 5 or 6...
I got my brooder set up about an hour ago and turned on the light and have a thermometer under where the light is shining down. I have a 75 watt infrared heat lamp bulb directly on top of my brooder top (made of pine and hardware cloth)...It seems I can only get it as warm as 88 degrees after...
I am picking up two Omaha Steaks cooler today, for turning them into incubators...last week I bought one of those walmart ones and I just wasn't impressed with it...so I looked around on craigslist and placed a wanted ad and someone answered and said he had two!! So has anyone used these for...
Thank you, to all the posters, for all your help and experience! Without this site I would have never had the guts to try and hatch eggs, let alone become ADDICTED to it and I haven't even hatched my first chick yet!!! The wealth of knowledge you all have is ever lasting and amazing and you...
