We have 20 jumbo Coturnix quail if anyone is interested - multiple colors. Hatched 6/10/25. Straight run. Unfortunately - we cannot ship, but can meet locally in Downtown Columbia SC.
Can anyone tell me the breed of the 2 day old chicks shown below? The eggs came from a mixed yard of RIR, Reds, and Plymouth Rocks. If either is a red, is the darker color a female?
In the 1st picture, I'm most interested in know what the one is with the dark stripe on its head.
Thank you!
The little fellow is eating and drinking...and without the bandaids manages to get around. But with the bandaids, it can stand up straight.
I expect the answer is to leave them on until it can walk properly.
But, can anyone tell me about how long that should be?
Thanks!
It's probably the smallest one I have...it's a Mallard. It's yolk sac is still attached and I can see veins along the wall of the sac. Can it survive?
Thanks!
Day 22 is today...don't know when the duck eggs were laid, but they've been in the incubator for 22 days. Today, the eggs started rocking quite a bit.
We've hatched chicken eggs, but not duck eggs. Is rocking at day 22 normal for duck eggs or should I expect an earlier than expected hatch...
This is our first experience with Duck eggs. We have 12 eggs that look great at 11 days. Considering some of the eggs were 7+ days old and had just been placed in a box until we started incubating them, I'm feeling good about our success thus far.
My dilemma is...we have to leave town for a...
Well...still wading our way through this first experience with Duck eggs. A friend saved the eggs from certain death-by-consumption by turtles. We started with 17 and have 12 that look great at 9 days. Considering some of the eggs were 7+ days old and had just been placed in a box until we...
Could sure use the insights from folks who have successfully incubated duck eggs. Chicken eggs we know...duck eggs we have no experience.
We just placed 17 in the incubator today. 99.5 degrees and 55% humidity. I don't know the specific type of duck...the eggs were given to us by a friend...
Just curious to know if any others have experienced this...
The egg developed great...only candled 3 times during incubation, but it was growing as expected.
The egg was the most active rocker of them all.
Since its hatching date had come and gone, I opened the egg to see why it didn't...
Edited....Found answer in previous post...thanks!
Question to folks who have built a styrofoam incubator with a hot water thermostat and 25w bulb...
I'm building one to use as a hatcher and am currently using a digital thermometer that's measuring air temperature...I'll purchase a digital...
Thanks for reading the post!
My kids and I are in need of an inexpensive, used turner for the LG 9200 incubator. If you've got one you'd be willing to sell, please let me know.
Thank you!
Tonight, I candled 17 shipped eggs. 9 were set on 2/10 and 8 were set on 2/12.
The eggs set on 2/10 got lost in the mail for 7 days and may have traveled through some very cold weather. Of these 9 eggs:
- 5 had blood rings
- 3 were cloudy
- 1 had an embryo that was visibly...
Checking to see if anyone has a turner for an LG 9200 that they no longer need. We could sure use one and are hoping to find an inexpensive used one.
Thanks.
Anyone have a used turner for an LG 9200 they are not using any longer and would be willing to sell inexpensively. My kids and I are wanting to hatch some more chicks this Spring...but can't be certain that we'll be at the property every day to turn the eggs.
Thanks for the consideration!
I realize this is a longshot...but I'm travelling south on I-77 from Charlotte to Columbia late Friday afternoon and am hoping someone along that route might have Silkie eggs available for pickup as I pass through. Please email or post if that,s the case. Quantity is not so important. I'm...
We live on a lake in South Carolina and would enjoy repopulating the wild bird population. I've read many articles about why or why not this practice is a good idea for quail and ducks...to the extent that I'd choose to err on the side of caution and not release either if them. I'm also aware...
