Found the missing eggs. How long?

Our EE decided to not use the egg boxes, but found a nice place under a bench. My question is can I use the eggs? OUr temps in So. Cal. have been over 90 for most of the last two weeks, with some days in the 100s. Eggs were in the shade for the whole time, but still outside.

    Our first 4 egg day!

While the weather has been hot, 100+, for the last few days, our EE finally joined the working girls. She is a week older, but 2 weeks behind the other 3 layers. Now, just have to wait for our Golden Laced Wyandotte to get on the egg program. Really was concerned about the EE laying in the...

    New eggs differences - Why?

Being that our 5 gals are just starting out in their egg laying careers, of which only 3 seem to be doing all the work load as of today, we, starting out as our first week full of eggs have some questions. Girls about 5 1/2 months old. Feed is Layenna with a bunch of greens added and a small...

Is this correct or a problem with Layena?

The guy at the feed store told me to start using Layena crumble. Our girls are 6 weeks for four of them and 7 weeks for the other. I asked him about using the 'red' bag of start and grow, but he said the only difference between that bag was the it was medicated. Should I stay with chick mash? or...

Finally (almost) all done on my first coop

The girls are now 5 weeks for four and 6 weeks for one, but needed to get them into their coop. Still need some detail work, but good enough for now. This is what I started with... and the ending (almost) I will go into detail later this week...on my 'ice chest lid' style roof, the piles...

Finally scored some free materials. (My roof idea, anygood?)

I knew if I held out long enough I would find my floor and roof material. Our son's former FRC robotic's classroom is being torn down and the teacher and the class went over to salvage what they could at class tonight. Since I am a mentor for them, I was able to find some 5/8's plywood, a 1"...

A little late, but here are our gals

We ended up getting 5 chicks. NH, GLW, EE, and I believe two of either BR or CM! They were to be one of each, but the feed store, I think, gave us sisters. These are shots when they were two days old. 2/13/09 This is a few days later after I made a quick perch. Again, a bit later on...

    Wife's secret plan to get...

ME to clean up the backyard. It really needed a good reason, so when she said "I want a couple of chickens. What do you think?" Our journey began. I think is was a secret plot to get me to clean up the backyard:rolleyes: In January, I started to find out more and more about chickens. I...

    Picked up the girls today!

Well, what started with my wife 4 weeks ago saying, "I want two chickens." Turned into five today. We had increased the total from two when we found out that three was a better number. That somehow became four. Two weeks ago, we went to Wes's Pets and Feed in El Monte and put in an order for a...

    East or West?

I am very new to all the world of chickens. Here in Southern California, our temperatures can climb to the triple digits early in the spring and can stay that way during most of the summer/fall. A week or longer of hitting 100+ is not too uncommon. Usually we cool down in the evenings. My coop...

    Do hens learn their names?

Being my first post and that we just put in our order for 4 chicks, my wife wanted to know if the pullets/hens will learn their names?
