We recently rescued 5 flightless geese and a duck. We found a wonderful ranch with owners who want to adopt them, but they are in the next state over. We wondered if anyone has shipped a duck (and geese) and what the experience was like. Were there any problems or issues? Thanks for any advice!
We wondered if anyone has shipped flightless geese and a duck via airlines? We rescued these sweeties and have found a new wonderful ranch but it is in the next state over. To fly them there it will be an hour long flight. Can anyone advise us on shipping these birds? Is it recommended or has...
Hi everyone,
Does anyone know what causes this "snoring" sound on expiration that Pilgrim Geese do? It kind of sounds like a moan also.....I hope she is not in pain? She is an older goose.....
We are searching for examples of replicable and sustainable models for parks that have successfully addressed the issues of abandoned domesticated waterfowl. The issues are complex, and hopefully we can find a few examples that address this, including but not limited to population control...
Hi,
Miss Lydia suggested that I post this here about a finding that we have noted.
It is very exciting because the goose that we rescued from our local park that was being abused due to her being lame....is now recovering well after almost two years.
Here is what we have learned about healing of...
Hi,
We rescued a beautiful white Embden goose "Joey" almost two years ago now, as she was lame due to osteomyelitis, and kids were hitting her with sticks, stones, etc. Upon getting her examined, the Vet determined that she had a 6" long and 1" wide keel wound (on her chest area.). The wound was...
My goose (Joey) has a keel wound (5" long by 1" wide) that has never healed, and the vet says she is around 9 years-- older, apparently. This open scabbed area she has had for as long as I have had her....It is like a pressure sore that debilitated people can get from lying in one spot for too...
My Embden goose is losing the large feathers and smaller downy type feathers--- just started about a week ago. Can anyone offer advice on what is causing this and if I should be concerned? It is starting to get warmer here now ---could that be causing it?
She is eating and drinking fine, and I...
Miss Lydia advised that I post something here about how we are going about addressing the abuse and neglect of our wildfowl at our local lake.
This is so sad and I hope that you all can join together to address this. I realized that as one person I cannot do anything alone, so I formed a group...
Will a big feral male cat go after a goose? I have two ferals that I feed regularly...Today the BIG male was inside Joey (my goose's) outdoor pen, walking toward her about 2 yards from her.
Does anyone have experience with this?
Thanks all!!!!
This is a stretch, but I am putting this here on BC in the hope that someone can forward this to goose lovers in CT..... The poor thing needs help now. I will also post to the Duck forum.
It apparently has a mate also and they are having a very hard time in this winter freeze.
Thanks!!!

Hi, I am hoping that this little sweet duck can be adopted by a loving person....it has had its wings clipped and is at this pond in CT. PLEASE CAN YOU ALL FORWARD OR POST TO OTHERS YOU KNOW WHO MAY BE ABLE TO HELP IT? IT'S WINGS HAVE BEEN CLIPPED APPARENTLY, SO IT IS DOOMED THERE.
THANKS...

Joey sent this out today for our Holiday Card~ Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to all! I would LOVE it if you could post pics of your quackers in their holiday finery~ ;)
For the least few days Joey has been picking and chewing at the area on her chest (where the 5" long wound that was debrided two months ago had healed). She had been placed on antibiotics twice daily for a month. I have checked the area twice and there does not seem to be any drainage or...

I have a new older Embden and am wondering what she would play with. She is a rescue so not sure about how to introduce that to her. She spends a lot of her time resting in her outside pen, eyes closed, or nibbling grass. She seems content but I don't know if she needs some sort of playfulness...
Hi,
When I first started out feeding my goose she loved apples, lettuce, but now she will not touch them. Is this normal behavior for them? She does have grass in addition to her bowl of dry food......What else can I try? I tried cabbage and kale and nothing is doing it for her right...
We wondered if anyone knows what diseases specifically do the birds get caused by eating bread and junk food that s fed to them at our park? Also, as a last resort, is whole grain bread ok to feed them? (We had this discussion and some kids/families don't have access to the wildfowl pellets...
