Hey :)
I've 2 batches of Java/Amerucana crosses
Oldest is almost about 15 weeks old
the younger 12 weeks old
I got the teetinyist perfect egg today from the pen with the younger group
The other egg layers in the pen are leghorns and Amerucana - thus white and pale green/blue - this one is...
Does anyone have an idea why a hen that is obviously being bred, in a run where other bred hens are laying fertile eggs, is only laying eggs that are not fertile?
In 3 batches I incubated all the eggs of one hen were fertile and none of the eggs of the other were not. I incubated a fairly even...
Hi, I'd like to start breeding SBTs this year with an eye toward harvesting from next year's clutches for Nov 2020.
I'd prefer to come to get the eggs or poults of course but would discuss receiving via mail. Must be NPIP and AI for North Carolina.
Thanks for looking
ISO:
French Black Copper Marans- good type and dark egg layers
Polish - because a good helper wants to have a few in the flock
non-bantam Cochin - for brooding
I live in NW North Carolina :)
Hi y’all
I have several Brown Leghorns. I know, I know…they are strong fliers. I just didn’t know How strong!
I’ve clipped the flight feathers on Both wings and they STILL fly over my 50 inch fencing.
About the only thing I can figure is to clip their primaries also.
Any suggestions??
Thanks!
Hi y’all
I am considering getting some electric net fencing for my chickens. I’m too old to have to keep moving cattle panel fencing.
My problem is that my chickens don’t try to go under my 4 ft. cattle panel fence, they fly over. Even though I’ve cut everyone's flight feathers on both wings...
Hi all,
I'n in NW North Carolina and looking for Chinese geese - preferably gosling - to raise with my chickens.
Any one have any suggestions?
Thank you
Hi all,
I'm splitting my chicken flock and am wanting to get a goose as a 2nd guard goose for my 2nd flock. Having tentatively settled on the Chinese, there are a few questions, namely...
Do they require water for swimming? I know geese need water deep enough to clean their nostrils and swish a...
To keep peace with neighbors I need a chicken guardian that doesn’t bark all night.
I know that is part of the LGD job description but not good for keeping neighbors friendly.
I’m planning on moving flock of 23 out to rotate with electric fencing on my 2 acres and I often work away from home...
He’s a bit beaten up and is skinny. I’m in the process of finding him a home. Hence he’s living in a cage in my SUV. I’d just caught him in pic. He now has food, water, and bedding.
I bought a trio of Silkie chicks a year ago. Turned out to Be a trio and supposedly from the same parental pairing. Got a black, a grey and a very light buff. The black is the rooster.
Shortly after the day started to lengthen I started getting little blue green eggs about every other day. I...
They are suggesting mandating urban or micro flocks be be subject to the same requirements and oversight as commercial flocks...and we all know how well that works.

Not new exactly but never answered this and it looked interesting
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Relatively
Hatched my first 10 Auburn Javas April 2017 (6 were roosters)
Then got 3 Silkie chicks - turned out to be a trio
Then trio of adult Lavender...
I’m just starting out with an endangered heritage breed that lays brown/beige eggs. I’ll be working on building their numbers this spring. Thus I’ll be incubating as many of their eggs as I can to grow and cull to improve the health, type, productivity etc. So I won’t be eating a lot of their...
we’ve been having heavy rains today with high winds.
Just went outside when I heard an unusual ruckus in the chickenyard.
Coop has hinged drop door and they all can get in and out.
Several of my roosters are soaked to the bone. ALL are very wet.
I’ve been looking out into their yard during...
I was handling/inspecting my chickens yesterday and found this on the keel of my Lavender Orpington rooster.
He was said to be just over a year old when I bought him about 5-6 weeks ago.
Under the skin is Very red. There is no sign of lice or mites. The scab/yellow scale is dry and securely...
Hello there!
I'm in North Western NC. I plan on raising Auburn Javas for fun, eggs and to help establish this color variation in the breed.
I am looking for Auburn Java breeders as I am planning on getting chicks this coming spring. Starting with about 15 birds.
I have started getting my...
