My daughter's school is hatching chicks and ducks - the chicks are all done and the ducks are due 4/26 (set on 3/29). As of yesterday two ducks had pipped internally. Are they early? Should I remove the auto turner and bump the humidity?
My WH has been laying one egg a day consistently for over 6 months, then, nothing for two days! She doesn't look weird nor is she acting funny. Any advice?
Thanks:/
We hatched some ducks for pets/eggs on April first and ended up with FOUR boys and ONE girl. I am looking to re-home the two WH drakes for sale or trade.
We hatched 5 ducklings in April and ended up wit 4 and 1 - what luck.
The 2 WH boys have been bullying and "dominating" my Cayuga and Pekins. Anyone up for a trade?
I'd order more but we only intended to have about four ducks. I'd love to get a girl Pekin and a girl Cayuga.
Any ideas? Anyone...
Our five ducks are seven weeks old today. We are in a suburban neighborhood and they free-range during the day and get locked in a duckhouse at night because we've seen foxes around sometimes. Anyway, usually we have to "guide" them into the duckhouse ( I do enjoy watching my 5 and 8 yearold...
So I was going to bed and checked the ducklings. The Pekin is breathing with it's beak opened.
Is this normal?
And s/he's breathing really fast...
At two weeks, s/he is gargantuan. Twice as big as the others - no other Pekins.
When do we stop free choice feeds and get them on a feeding...
Isn't the flock raiser 20% protein? If so, are duck folk cutting it with something to get it into the 16% range?
What else is there since Purina quit the duck chow?
Thanks
I am loving my ducks. I definitely heard two of the ducklings quack. Cute as can be.
In order of appearance;
Speck, Jax(quacking), Loki (still with torticollis), AC (our egg marked X/P which we thought meant "extra Pekin" but clearly it meant "mixed Pekin" - quacking) and Angel.
We are going to be cutting the door soon and before we do we want to be sure.... we were planning 18" x 18". Is that too tall? Too wide too narrow? We were going for a little wider because we will close them in at night and didn't want a crazy smashing dash for the door in the morning.
We will...
Our Cayuga has a permanent neck rotation and is always flexed. He/she eats and drinks well, bathes and grooms like the others but I've never seen s/he look up. The others lift their heads when drinking but I've never seen the Cayuga do that.
Anyone seen this?
We have had our 5 new hatches on rubber shelf liner but, boy do they poop a lot. I was swapping and rinsing the liner two times a day already ( day two). So today we added wood pellets but it seemed like they didn't like the feel of it. They no longer frenzied and sprinted back and forth and...
Three ducks have hatched and are in the brooder and we're waiting for the other two to finish hatching. I'm so excited but now I can't help thinking I'm doing it wrong.
All I could find around me was purina chick starter/grower - unmedicated. Do I need to add brewer's yeast for niacin?
Do they...
Awaiting the hatch (pekin, Cayuga, WH) and all I could get my hands on was Purina start and grow- unmedicated. As the protein content is lower than desired for ducks what should I augment with?
I did a few searches and chased butterflies and I am still confused.
Do they need grit?
Brewer's...
Threeof the six have pipped externally - the one Cayuga, one of two WH and one of three Pekins. One of the Pekins looks like it has stopped. No movement or tapping since last night. It also has a mottled looking shell.
The other Pekin and WH are still tapping on the shell.
I can't get our...
Hooray! All six have pipped internally. So, what, it's one or two days to pip the shell?
They were set 2:30 PM March 5. So that puts us at day 25. The bator was running 101-102 for the first 2 days until we finally got it at a steady 100. Will the increase temp have sped them up?
I realized...
Got me thinking - with 6 in the bator - are they smart enough to get out of the hail. The size pieces we had would definitely injure them, if not worse. We do plan on roofing half the run, now I'm thinking all of it.
We are on day 24 for our Pekins, Cayuga and Welsh Harlequins- I'm about to...
