I've been very suspect of another outdoor(outside of their coop/run) nest. I finally saw my hen go into the nest. I let them out in the morning and lock up when they go to bed. I live on National Forest Land, so, there's lotsa hiding places. 6 of my 9 hens are pretty good about keeping in the...
I would like to remove the band from my new gosling. Unfortunately they are identical and I need to mark one. I was thinking a of a mark/dot on the top of the foot with permanent marker?
My 2 other goslings (5 weeks) were much nicer than I anticipated. Couple of nips, but, nothing serious. I...
It is the 2 chickens that are white/black/grey. You will see them @ 18 seconds. They have feathers growing down their feet like bantams.
Thank you BYC.
This is a video. Click on pic to see.........
EDIT: They are 5 weeks old.
I have come across a few urban legends and was hoping to confirm a couple.
Males are the "hissers"?
Males have a broader neck?
Males generally have a higher voice than the females?
Can anyone confirm these, or, add to them?
It is still getting around freezing here in Central Oregon, but, things are starting to look better. It is my understanding that waterfowl can tolerate colder temperatures and sooner?????? I also came across some reading that suggested toulouse geese are very tolerable of colder temperatures...
It's the second day I have let my 11 hens and 1 turkey out of the coop and into the run. The weather has been nice this weekend in Central Oregon. Day 1 they were roaming while I cut in the pop door and made the ramp. This morning I simply opened the door and they are quickly becoming...
Picked up some mallards a week ago. They are just starting to warm up. They will take food from our hands now. They aren't to happy about being picked up, but, have mellowed quite a bit.
They like eating romaine lettuce, spinach and, kale with their other food. Messy little buggers with their...
My goslings(3-4 weeks) seem to be eating the shavings. They have just started doing this. Should I be concerned? I have been giving them things to keep them busy, such as, fresh greens, a golf ball and the feed. Also, the store where I purchased everybody suggested that feeding everyone chick...
Both my goslings have chosen a spot on their backs that they tend to suck on alot. The spot is always wet now. Is this like a baby sucking their thumb, or, a sign of stress? Is it an itchy transition into feathering?
I am guessing a dog house type structure will suffice for the geese? And what about the turkey? Most likely they will share the coop yard with chickens. I'm hoping that they will be out more often than not.
Day one of my chicken coop. It measures 6' wide by 7' high by 8' deep.
It's going to also have 12 nest boxes that measure 16" x !6" x 14". Do I need to seperate each nest box individually?
I have it raised above the ground 2' so they can use the space underneath for a shaded area(it will be...
My baby turkey has begun to take good aim and peck at the eyes of my baby chicks. I noticed this last night and will keep an eye on the behavior. I plan on starting my coop this morning. In the meantime, should the turkey be re-located? I can put it in with my goslings for the time being...
My plan is to build a small house (dog house sized) and keep it in the coop yard next to the chicken coop. Will they (the geese) share a spot inside the chicken coop? I'm hoping to let them free range (1 acre butted up to NF w/o a fence) so it will only be for nightime.
New member here. Just picked up some chicks, a bronze turkey and, 2 toulouse goslings. I will throw my thank yous out now. I moderate on a reef aquarium forum. If randomly anyone has any fish tank Q's feel free to send me a pm.
Not going to eat the turkey and the chickens are egg layers. And...
I just noticed that my goslings slobber when they are being held. Not worried just intrigued. I'm a week into fowl and poultry. I just picked up 12 chicks, 1 turkey and, 2 toulouse goslings.
