I was wondering how mandarin drakes look when they start to feather out? Do they just grow in those beautiful rainbow feathers right away or do the feathers come in brown like the females and then later they get their color? Ive been looking for pictures of mandarin duckling development but...
I just ordered 12 mandarin duck eggs on eBay and am planinning on putting them in my rcom incubator. I wish I could put them under a broody but all I have right now is an incubator. What settings do I use? Last time I did ducks were mallards and I had them at 99.5 days 1-26 with turning every...
I have a cornish hen who I rescued from being snake food. Didn't know the breed when I got her but she is now unmistakable a broiler. She is the sweetest little girl but she needs special care. I restrict her diet even now so she doesn't get to fat and put strain on her legs. Also, in a big...
I have 21 chicks that just hatched sunday. Their mama was a rhode island red and their dad a white leghorn, but they will grow to be pure white chickens. They are very healthy and cute! They are straight run. Come pick them up in Berkeley, CA! I want to give them away in groups of at least 3 .
Two of my eggs internally piped Saturday the 15th and there has been no external pip. Tomorrow night is the 72 hour mark. Should I make a tiny hole so they don't run out of air? What do I do?
I have 6 eggs and today is day 44 of incubation. 3 of the eggs started small (about 540 grams) and three are bigger (630 grams). They are all wiggling around! Two of the small eggs were losing way to much weight so I taped them up and that helped a lot but one of them is still too light for...
I have 6 eggs incubating and it's day 34. temp 96 humidity is between 30 and 40 (I am dry incubating but the area I live in is just really humid and it WILL NOT go lower) should I sand down some of theses eggs?
starting weight: current weight loss: What it's supposed to be (based on 15%...

I will have 6 (hopefully) emu chicks hatching end of February and am planning on selling them. I'm just not sure the best place to do that. Which online ads are best? There aren't many emu classified out there lol. Any ideas?
Just joined backyard chickens and wanted to share this exciting experience! Hatching six emu eggs this season, put six in my RCOM 20 MAX, 96.2 degrees, still fiddling with humidity as I weigh them, but for now its at 32%. Put them in the bater Dec. 27 and expecting a 55ish day incubation...

Here is the story of my little chicken. She is the sweetest bird I've ever raised. She hatched alone and has never seen another chicken and is very bonded to people. I feather sexed her female but am not sure of...

So I thought I'd try a little experiment with some grocery store eggs. My local health food store sells fertile brown eggs and I put four in my "chickabator/mini dome incubator". Well, all four eggs developed to some degree. Egg 1 made it to day 5, egg two, around day 11, egg 3 pipped...
